weird day

canadiandiamond: (...I think I bent my Wookie)
It's been an interesting day alright. It started off kinda weird - last night I watched The Muppets, which is quite possibly my favourite movie from last year (definitely the most enjoyable theatre experience I had last year), and it gave me odd dreams I think. Near by bed (on it when it's made, on the side otherwise) is a Build-A-Bear my wife made me way back where we were dating, a little black bear in a Bruins uniform (Phil Bear, for the record, after then-Bruin Phil Kessel), and sometime in the wee small hours of the morning I woke up and started taking his jersey off. I do not know why, and I remember sort of waking up halfway through and was like "what the eff am I doing?" I think I started putting it back on and then was like wait, I should be sleeping, and just left him there like he is now. I don't even know, it was kind of bizarre, not gonna lie.

The other weird thing was when I went to court this morning. It was pretty cold, as we got a little bit of snow last night, and it was still chilly out today. I parked my car across the road from the courthouse - it was a first appearance day and even though I was there 10m early it was still packed - and went to cross the road, when I heard a little 'ting!' noise and noticed my wedding ring was no longer on my finger. Uh-oh. I was crossing at a crosswalk and there were no cars coming, so I took a minute or two to look at the ground, figuring the morning sun would bounce off of the shiny silver and show me its location in no time flat. Noooooope. So after moving back to look at another angle, a car or two drive by, which makes me panic. What if by some freak coincidence the ring got imbedded in one of those tires and was being driven away? Or what if it fell on its side and went rolling down the hill somewhere - the court is sort of on a hill, kinda - which meant it could be anywhere by now. Oh man. Not only did I lose my ring, but there went my idea of getting there early to talk to the Crown (which, by the by, failed anyway since she didn't show up until after the 9:30 start time anyway >.>). I decided to go inside and get one of the bailiffs to maybe come help me find it, reaching into my pocket for my keys as I did so - and, to my relief, felt the ring in my pants pocket. It had apparently fallen off as I was putting my hand in my pocket and the 'ting!' had been it hitting the keys. Pheeeeeeeeew. Needless to say I've been looking down at my finger very frequently all day, haha. I'm guessing the cold shrunk my finger or something because it's usually not a problem, so yeah, just weird.

Other than that, work went well enough, and this evening I gave myself the task of redeeming all the digital copies of movies I have laying about the room while watching You Again. A few of them were already expired, sadly, and a few require downloads - 1.5gb or so each and my connection suuuuuuuuuucks, so may do it overnight or something - and reorganized a few things. I also made wings for supper but they sucked, the first batch of them I cooked (way back on Superbowl Sunday) were awful but I slightly overcooked (read: burnt) them, but these were actually just as bad even though I was way more observant with them. Must either be a bad batch or just bad wings overall I guess, which sucks. Ah well. I'm kinda proud that I actually made supper instead of getting take out; the folks are in the city to help my sister move to her new apartment (that's a whole 'nother story itself, for another time maybe) so I was on my own, but I'm trying to cut back. In that vein, the girls at work are doing a little friendly competition to see who can lose the most weight, and I'm so in on it. Tomorrow morning we weigh in at the office and we'll be keeping track, though I'll have to do it on my own while in the US next week. Still, I love the idea, and encouragement is always a good thing, since left to my own devices, well. Yeah. So this will be good. :)

Been thinking about just wiping out all of my icons here and starting over fresh, but I'm pretty lazy and dread the thought of uploading / re-describing all of the icons I want to keep, haha. Maybe I'll split the difference and just relabel / reorganize what I do have, hmm.

October's been good to me so far, all three full days of it plus and today so far. I made a little promise to myself yesterday to not let other people's negativity get me down (n.b. if you can read this, you're not one of the sources of said negativity), and I plan to stick to it. Most especially I need to stop being so negative myself, I'm the worst culprit of all. In that light, I'm planning on hooking the Wii back up at home here in Carbonear and using that once again as my normal scale. I'm pretty scared to see what my weight is now, haha, it's definitely back where it was when I first started to diet and what not a few months go, if not more. Hoping it's not more at least, ugh. But I need to do it, and get back on the wagon. The wagon that I've long since jumped off of, set on fire, and pissed on the ashes of, whoops. >.>

On a random note, I consumed all of Season One of Bored To Death yesterday, and wow, very fun show. I was a little disappointed in the season finale, kinda, but still, so very funny. And a great cast; I love Jason Schwartzman and Zach Galifianakis, and Ted Danson's not bad either. There's been some great cameos too, and Olivia Thirlby plays the main character's flame, who appears in every other episode or so. I'm sad I never knew it existed before, but there's a Season Two that just started awhile back so I'm going to try and watch it in real time, so to speak. Slowly starting to get a list of shows I want to watch, even if I can't watch some of them as they air (Bored To Death being on HBO and Mad Men being on AMC).

Ok, it's technically Sunday afternoon but still, the coming down part applies. Or, well, to be specific it's more accurately going up that's got me feeling down, heh. I knew it was going to happen but I guess part of me hoped I'd been able to break even or something, but no, according to the same Wii scale I always use I was up 0.3kg this week. Which isn't a lot, it almost negates the 0.4kg I was down last week so it's not a complete backslide or anything, but it still sucks and it's still demoralizing.

Of course there's no one else to blame but myself - I ate very poorly this week, which I can partly blame on being in Court every single day of the week (save Monday which was a holiday) and having to eat on the road. I probably could've eaten better but I'm an expert at convincing myself that I've "earned" or "deserve" less-than-healthy food due to the stress and strain of being in the middle of a trial or something equally as taxing on me. I also over indulged this weekend when my sister came home, which involved picking up more snacks than I usually would for a weekend and even a late night (~10pm, not uber late but still) 6" sandwich from Subway on Friday night, and it all adds up.

The good news, though, is that I am out of snacks, heh, and this is something I can nip in the bud by, you know, not eating like a pig this week and not buying any more junk food. Depending on how my office hours look (I think I'm mainly in the office all week, with the exception of a court appearance tomorrow and Friday) I'll hopefully be able to get home in time a few evenings this week and actually work out for a change. That'll help since I've been coasting by and losing the little weight I've lost so far solely by restricting my junk food intake and not by actually working it off. I'm taking this as a good kick in the rear to get my butt back into gear and to start working for what I want instead of just hoping for it to happen, and hopefully by this time next week I'll be back on the right side of the +/- result.

Cut for LOTRO stuff 99% of you don't care / know about XD )

My plans for today basically involve grabbing a shower as soon as I finish typing this and then popping into the office for a few hours to catch up on things. I've got a stubborn client who actually calls me at home, repeatedly, and just does not get that I cannot work 24 hours a day. >.< Or, well, I could, but I don't want to completely overstress myself and have a heart attack, which they don't seem to get. *sighs* So I want to get the work done for them so they can leave me the hell alone, and I've gotta prep for tomorrow as well, which won't take very long at all but I still want to do it. It should actually be a nice week at work, at least relative to the last few, which will be a welcome change. Other than that, I'll try and play a little Red Dead Redemption - which, by the way, is amazing - and maybe read a little before hopping in game to meet my wife for a bit before going to sleep.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend! :)

So, wow, what a start to the weekend I had last night. It was a long, difficult week, for sure, culminating in Day 1 of what was scheduled to be a 3 day trial but will end up being 5+ for sure. That actually went very well, I think, and it continues on Tuesday and Wednesday, with me having Monday off for May 24th. I'll end up going into the office to prep for Tuesday and Wednesday then, but it'll be nice to have a day in the office with no distractions to get some work done for sure.

The only downside to yesterday, and the weekend so far, has been my allergies. They've been acting up something fierce, which sucks; we don't get much nice weather here and now that we're getting some I can't really go out and enjoy it for fear of making the annoying symptoms - sneezing liekwoah, runny nose, sniffling - 1,000,000 times worse. Instead I'm barred up in my room with the fan on blast, ugh. Let's be honest, though - I've got lots of Xbox and PC distractions to keep me occupied, heh, so it's not the end of the world, but part of me feels bad for not really getting out to enjoy the rare nice weather. Mreh.

After work I came home and did a little deeding in LOTRO before heading out for awhile. I ended up picking up a little, basic XM radio device - a big part of this was me discovering that the XM radio in my parents' car had E Street Radio and wow it's amazing. And getting the device and subscribing meant I could also listen to any of the music stations online for free in addition to the paid service features, so that sold me. It came with a home kit and a car kit so I can listen to it anywhere I go, along with the internet, and there's even a Blackberry version of the internet software so I can listen to it on that as well, which is nice. :) I picked that up and some Subway, then headed back home.

Cut LOTRO musings for those uninterested. :) )

So it was a great night, though omg I ate way too much and took a big dip into my weekly points overflow, whoops. Gonna have to be careful today, but since I slept in so late that shouldn't be a huge problem. I'll basically have a nice supper, after having had cereal when I woke up, and as long as I don't go overboard later tonight I'll be fine. Tomorrow's my usual weighing day so here's hoping last night doesn't throw that completely out of whack, heh.

Alright, off I go to get in some quality Red Dead Redemption time before supper. Hope everyone's having a great weekend! :D

off a wii bit

So, I was keeping up with my Wii Fit exercise routine right up to my trip to see Sara. I even brought the Wii Fit Plus disc with me to the US to use, even if only for the first week I was there while she still had to work - heck, I even brought my sweat pants with me - but I didn't use it. Then I had two weeks of omg indulgence in all the American food and drink I could get my hands on, and to boot since I've been home (two weeks to the day) I've still been on vacation, exercise- and diet-wise (or lack thereof), and bang, my weight has gone up to slightly more than it was pre-Wii.

To try and get back on the wagon (I fell off a Wii bit, HAH) I'm going to get back on the Wii after work today, and I signed up for Weight Watchers Online to keep track of my points and whatnot, after seeing how wonderfully it's working for my wife and her roomie.

So we'll see how that works out, I guess, here's hoping I'll be able to get back into the routine I had before, with the added benefit of tracking my calorie intake now. :)

Thankfully the week is half over already, due in no small part to having Monday off as a holiday. I've got no appointments for tomorrow but some things popped up today that will definitely keep me busy tomorrow. Friday isn't bad either, but next week will be super busy for sure, so I better enjoy the slightly slower pace while I can.

Last night I headed into the city since I had court in St. John's early-ish this morning. Not too, too early - it was set for 10:15am - but if I had to get up and drive into the city this morning I'd be facing more traffic (and potentially moose), plus a much earlier rise, so I went in last night. Also, I hadn't seen the friends I stay with in awhile, so it was nice to hang out with them for awhile. Alex and I grabbed a loooooot of wings for supper (yay for wing night!), then hit the mall for a bit with the intention of seeing a movie but we didn't after all. We toyed with the idea of seeing Transformers 2 but it wasn't in digital and would've been blurry and, well, I've heard it's horrible anyway, so oh well. I did pick up the complete series of The State on DVD though, which I'm watching now. It's pretty darn funny, kinds seems like an American Kids In The Hall, a little. After I went back to J&A's I got to hang out with them some more, then I enjoyed a nice, long phone call with the wife before reading for an hour or so and sleeping.

Today I got to sleep in later than usual, and court went well. After that I grabbed brunch at a favourite local spot, then popped into a downtown music store and picked up a cd for the ride home (the greatest hits of Warren Zevon, which is great!), and then headed back to the office. I got back around 1:00pm, and had someone waiting outside for me to talk to me before I even got into the office. Ugh. The rest of the afternoon was just as busy, though I did get things done.

Part of today got me thinking, though. The court has relaxed its dress code for the summer, thankfully, so no need to wear the formal suits to Supreme Court until this fall. This means you can wear regular suits or lighter clothes, and I wore one of my grey suits that I used to wear a lot until recently. I got a few new ones before the wedding that I've been using, and have had a lot of Supreme Court appearances so until they relaxed the code I was wearing that suit a lot too. Anyway, wearing the good ol' grey one I always used to wear... let's just say I used to have to wear a belt with it and now, not so much. In fact, while doing them back up this afternoon one of the buttons actually came off of it. -.-;; Now, I know I've been horrible lately with the bad eating and all, but I hadn't really noticed the results of that until now. So after getting home from work today, it being such a lovely afternoon, I put the Warren Zevon album on my iTunes and then my iPod and went for a walk for ~30-40m or so. Not a marathon or anything, but I want to make some kinda effort to get in shape, or at least lose a little weight. I weighed myself before leaving and I think the last time I checked I was ~245ish, maybe? But now that's 256, which, while being a cool number and a power of 2 (2^8!), is more than I'd like to weigh. No idea what my goal should be, or what timelines I should follow, but yeah. Thinking I'd like to lose maybe 5-10 lbs. before my trip to see Sara in September, which, if you'll note my TickerFactory counter in my userinfo, is in 1 month, 2 weeks, and 6 days from now. Not sure if that's feasible, but it's good to have a goal period, and to work towards it, right? Not sure how far I'll get but saying this out loud and in my journal might actually coax me into keeping up with it. We'll see how far that goes anyway!

That being said, it's time to get back to looking at my resume and this one particular website a friend linked me to earlier. Yay for exploring other options!
