What a great moment last night on the ice for Canada. And no, not in ice hockey - though the Canadian Women put the smack down on Finland in a 5-0 win to advance to the Gold Medal game on Thursday too! - but in pairs figure skating.

Canada's Virtue and Moir made Olympic history in becoming the first North American pair to win gold in their event, as well as the youngest to win. Even to me, someone who knows nothing about figure skating, they put on a fantastic performance and were just incredible to watch. I didn't see the Friday night compulsory portion but I did see the Sunday night and Monday night performances and wow.

The best part of the story is how they trained with and shared the same coaches with a pair of American skaters who were also amazing, and who captured the Silver medals. It was amazing to see how elated they were to see each other perform so well and to finish 1-2 in the standings, it was very touching indeed, especially during the medal ceremony.

Hopefully Roberto Luongo was watching and taking notes so that he can be just as acrobatic and spectacular against Germany tonight. :)

Canada wins Gold in Curling! Our first ever, actually, though a lot of people associate the sport with us. What's more important is that the team representing Canada is from Newfoundland and Labrador, our first ever Olympic medal and it's Gold. :D It was a really emotional moment, the team skip's mother has been undergoing chemo treatments and couldn't attend the games in Italy. He called her almost right away on his cell, though he couldn't get an answer, so he turned to the camera and said "Answer the phone mom!" CBC had them miked for the whole game, which was nice. :) But yes, he was pretty much in tears over the whole thing, it was such an amazing moment.

The Minister of Education here closed the schools this afternoon, and the boss told us this morning that he was closing the office so we could watch the game. Then we went to his house and did just that, had a few drinks and snacks. Good times! And yay for Team Canada / Newfoundland and Labrador! ^_^

Seriously, when did that happen? Not that I don't want March to get here, au contraire. It's just flying by, it seems. Anyway, winter going by quickly is a good thing in my books. No really big storms so far either, though apparently Saturday will be terrible. Not going anywhere here, so no worries.

Tomorrow's the Gold medal game for Curling, the Minister of Education here said today that the schools will close after lunch so kids can watch the game, heh. It's that big of a deal here, the first Newfoundlander to get a shot at a Gold medal and all. I still have to work, but I'm sure our little tv in the basement will be on so we can check in on the score from time to time.

Off to bed for me, it's getting late and I really wanna get some reading in before going to sleep. American Gods is awesome. :D

As far as Mondays go, this one wasn't too, too bad, I suppose. There was a nice bit of snow built up outside today, so I had to leave the car and call a cab to work. I finally got my haircut, which is good, I guess. Work itself was ok, got some things done but some old files popped back up to be a pain again, which always sucks. I also have to go to court tomorrow, which I was hoping to avoid, but apparently today was a holiday in Alberta so I couldn't contact my client to get instructions, meaning I have to be there tomorrow to get a postponement. Boo to that.

In better news, the Canadian women's hockey team captured the Gold medal today, so yay for that! :D The men aren't faring nearly as well, but oh well, what can you do. They're not out of it yet and play the Czech Republic tomorrow in the last of the round robin matches, so then it'll get interesting.

I think I'm going to put on Young Guns, which I borrowed from my sister's boyfriend awhile back (along with The Highlander) but haven't watched yet. I mean, I've seen them both before, but not in ages. I also picked up American Gods again to read over lunch, since I brown bagged it with the cab ride in and all. I should stick with it, it's very good, and I can't remember why I put it on pause. I blame su doku. :o

Well, today was an ok day. The Olympics were a bit of a let down, but other than that I got a lot done. Still didn't get a hair cut, it was stormy-ish out today so perhaps they were all closed when I called, but either way there was no answer there. The number to the place I usually go to said it was no longer in service, so I'm beginning to think it's permanently closed down. Oh well, I'll find another. I also cleaned up the room a little, which is good. February is always a good time to put away things you got for Christmas, I always say. Found some clothes that I forgot I had, which is always nice. Especially this one nice golf shirt, though it's too early to be wearing that just yet. Maybe when I got to Boston though, oh ho!

I watched some more Seinfeld too, though not a lot. Meant to but I got caught up in other things and then the cleaning, then bang! it's after 1am, eep. All in all it was an ok Sunday, though I really didn't do anything. Not that I did a ton yesterday or Friday night either, I suppose. So a nice, quiet weekend over all. No complaints here!

So, it seems like Dick Cheney shot somebody. Oops!

Today's been pretty nice so far, very relaxing. I didn't get up until 4 frickin' pm, holy crap, but once I did I shovelled out my car, got a shower, had some supper and have been enjoying more of season one of seaQuest DSV on DVD. Good times! Also playing a little su doku on the side. All in all, it's been a great weekend. Even got some more plans done up for my trip to Boston, woohoo! I really can't wait. :D

The Olympics have been fun so far too, though all I've really seen is a bit of women's hockey. The men's hockey is what I'm really waiting for, though that doesn't start until the middle this week or so. That's going to be so awesome. It's too bad the games come on so darn early though, stupid time zones. Oh well, I'm sure they'll be replayed later on, but of course the score will have invariably been leaked to my before I can watch them. That's the way it usually goes, hard to enjoy it when you know the final outcome.
