What a great moment last night on the ice for Canada. And no, not in ice hockey - though the Canadian Women put the smack down on Finland in a 5-0 win to advance to the Gold Medal game on Thursday too! - but in pairs figure skating.
Canada's Virtue and Moir made Olympic history in becoming the first North American pair to win gold in their event, as well as the youngest to win. Even to me, someone who knows nothing about figure skating, they put on a fantastic performance and were just incredible to watch. I didn't see the Friday night compulsory portion but I did see the Sunday night and Monday night performances and wow.
The best part of the story is how they trained with and shared the same coaches with a pair of American skaters who were also amazing, and who captured the Silver medals. It was amazing to see how elated they were to see each other perform so well and to finish 1-2 in the standings, it was very touching indeed, especially during the medal ceremony.
Hopefully Roberto Luongo was watching and taking notes so that he can be just as acrobatic and spectacular against Germany tonight. :)
