It feels like a Monday since we had yesterday off, and in fact I'll have three Mondays off in a row, counting yesterday. Yesterday was a holiday for Discovery Day, this coming Monday will be our holiday for Canada Day (since the 1st falls on a Sunday this year), and the one after that will be for Orangemen's Day. No doubt about it, this is the best stretch of holidays every year, though sometimes they're spread out instead of back-to-back-to-back depending on the dates, not this year however.

The weekend seemed to fly by, I'm guessing mainly because Saturday we spend pretty much the whole day in the city and then drove out that night. We went to a reception for some friends of ours who got married in Cuba back in April, which was a good time. Sunday and Monday were pretty lazy for me, though I did get in a few walks and tidied up a little bit in between. I meant to do more but I was pretty damn lazy, and I guess I did read a fair bit too, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Tonight we're city bound again, to see a concert at the Arts & Culture Centre: this one to be precise. Should be fun, though we'll have to drive out after it's done since I've got work again in the morning. Looking forward to it though, and then Thursday I have to get some dental surgery to have a few teeth removed, leaving me clinically impaired for 24 hours or so they say. I had to move some court in the city on Friday as a result, since it probably wouldn't be good to drive into the city and appear in front of a court while clinically impaired.
Wow, it really has been ages since I wrote anything here. I could've sworn I'd done a post since I got back to Newfoundland but it doesn't look like it, huh. Well, where to start? For the sake of brevity (and also because I've likely forgotten a lot of details / things) I'll do most of this in bullet point form.

· We saw Bruce Springsteen play in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center back on March 28th, and wow. Just an amazing show, can't even put it into words, at least not in any form that'd do it justice. The theme for the night was changes, very fitting for us, and they were in top form. The tributes to Danny and Clarence brought tears to my eyes, and the tribute to the Big Man during 10th Avenue Freeze-Out was a religious experience. Heck, the whole show was, to me anyway. So very happy I got to see them live, and even happier I got to share that with [livejournal.com profile] believeitup.

· We left on Monday, April 2nd to drive back to Canada. The 10' U-Haul truck I'd reserved wasn't available so they bumped us up to a 14' one at no cost. It was for the best in the end, even if it was hella intimidating to have to drive a 22' long vehicle that far (the storage was 14', truck and all was 22' total x.x), because we had a bigger cab and that meant more room for Simon in his carrier and us. It was a great trip, getting to see friends along the way and lots of scenery, though it was rough on poor Simon who consequently made it rough on us, heh. But we survived, and so did Simon, who's pretty settled into his new digs now. :)

· We arrived in NL on Good Friday and have been steadily unpacking and straightening things away ever since. We're getting there, though there's always going to be something else to do; such is the nature of home ownership, or so I'm told. It's been going so well though, getting government IDs and programs set up, a new car for the missus, all that administrative stuff has gone very well and honestly faster than expected. The unpacking too has been nice, though I don't know if it's that from this weekend or a touch of the flu that has me so so so congested this morning, ugh.

· We have HD set up at home now, woo, and a lightning fast internet connection that omg I am so happy with. Both I guess, really, because HD rocks. So nice to finally be able to use the TV we got so long ago. Getting used to the PVR too, I've set up a few shows to record, it's great. Hockey in HD is awesome too, though it made watching my boys bow out of the playoffs tough. >.> In truth we had gone to bed for overtime of Game 7 of the Boston/Washington series and both of us had nodded off and missed the OT goal that clinched it for the Caps, haha. Alas. We have mainlined Community and are now caught up and watching it in real time (last week's Law & Order one was omg amazing), and are now making our way through Parks and Recreation. We've also watched a lot of Storage Wars and Pawn Stars, as you do.

· Writing has been horrible for me, sadly, and I feel like a total failure in that vein, because I really have been. I've been so slow and absent for XP the last month, though I'm hopefully turning the corner on that one. I bowed out of the two Big Bangs I'd signed up for because I couldn't write anything, and I have a little story due today for a 1k fic exchange that I really need to tidy up and send off by the end of the day. That'll be about the only thing I've accomplished in the last month or more, which is pretty sad, but it'll be ok.

· In gaming news, I've preordered both Diablo III and Guild Wars 2 and am looking forward to them both. I've had trouble installing the former which I should work on tonight, as it goes live on May 15th, but there was a beta for the latter this past weekend that was pretty fun. It looks like a great little MMO, and I haven't really touched LOTRO in so long, so we'll see what happens I guess. I've also been toying with proposing a D&D campaign by mail to people in XP but honestly I've been so absent lately I don't think it'd be proper to throw that out there all of a sudden, haha. "Hey guys, I'm not rping much at all lately but let's do something else where I can fail you! :D" I know, I know, too negative, but I am messing around and making characters so once I've done that (and once I've been better at tagging logs and such) we'll see. :)

That's about it really, I suppose. There's likely more to post about but it's almost lunch time and I'm staaaaaarving, so if anything else comes to me I'll make another post or something. And hopefully I'll be posting here again more regularly too, that might help with the whole writing thing, you know, actually writing and all. XD
At the office now, worked with Christine for ~4 hours earlier until she went home. Then I snagged some take-out (shh) and am now finishing up a few letters I want to fax out, and then printing out e-tickets, reservations, and the like in preparation for Friday's departure. This is going to be an awesome trip, omg, and relatively busy, at least by our ([livejournal.com profile] believeitup and I) usual standards. Not that we don't ever do anything; the trip to NYC where we got engaged was omg so busy, mainly due to some good-intentioned-but-crazy-as-heck friends who were uber busy trying to cram as much into their first trip to NYC as possible, haha. Which was fun, don't get me wrong, but near the end of that trip my then-fiancée and I sat out most of their events, especially the ones that took place before noon. XD

This trip, though, we've got a busy week in Boston: we get in via train on Thursday afternoon, and the convention starts on Friday afternoon. That will keep us more than busy (so much to try and attend - here's the schedule for example) until Sunday afternoon. Then on Monday night we have tickets to see the Boston Bruins destroy play the Buffalo Sabres, and then tickets to see Vampire Weekend in concert on Thursday night. Ok, there are a lot of days in between the game and the concert, but still, this is a lot of pre-planning for us. XD We're staying at the Hilton, I think, during the convention, which is nice and handy to the event location, but the last three nights we're staying at a swanky hotel to relax, which will be nice. It was originally two nights, however, once I saw that Vampire Weekend was rocking Boston that Thursday night, we extended it for one more night. :)

Then we train back to Philly on Friday morning and have the rest of the weekend to decompress from our big trip, and I fly back on Monday - it's Easter weekend so our office is closed, allowing me to stay for all of Sunday and to get back on Monday instead, which is a nice little bonus. :)

So, yes, back to work for me, shouldn't take too, too long to clue things up here, then to print my other things and back home. It's such a beautiful day out, it's a sin to spend most of it inside, but at least it's nice out. The extra hour doesn't hurt either, even if it's a pain when it actually jumps ahead at first, heh. Because I wanted to be in here this afternoon it meant me going to bed last night earlier than I have been some weeknights lately, haha, although that being said I've been better the last few weeks about that. Which only speaks volumes about how bad I was before, but shh, like I said, better now. :)

update

canadiandiamond: (Rahk out!)
So, I have fallen off of the NaNo wagon, oops. I was on pace the first few days, fell behind a little, then caught up again, and now have fallen behind about 8-9k words, d'oh. I do have Wednesday off so maybe I can catch up there, however I finally installed some long awaited software tonight that I can't talk about and that might take up my time. Also, we have a raid scheduled in LOTRO for Tuesday and Wednesday night, so it'll depend on how those go. I'm hoping we can blow through it all on Tuesday night, leaving Wednesday open for either NaNo or other goodness. We'll see!

That's about all to report now, which is kind of sad, yes? New Blue Rodeo tomorrow, though, and I got tickets for their January concert today, so that's good. Perhaps I'll do a little music review in the next few days, as I've gotten a ton of new music lately that I want to share with y'all. :)
It's been a pretty frustrating weekend all around, mainly due to stupid computer problems. The new machine keeps locking up on me in LOTRO, it's extremely frustrating especially since the weekend's when a lot of the bigger events go down and that's the worst time to have an unstable set-up. I'm hoping the new graphics drivers I installed last night will continue to work well; after it locked up a second time last night I searched for new drivers on a whim, as I only put up-to-date ones on a few weeks ago, and sure enough there was another new set from just 5 days ago. I installed those and it worked fine without a hitch for 4-5 hours or so last night, so I'm hoping that's a good sign. We'll see how it goes tonight as there's a bit more to do (one smaller raid at 5:30pm my time, and a continuation of last night at 10:30pm my time that I can attend for a little while). I just hope it holds up; it's extra frustrating when it prevents you from enjoying both your major form of entertainment for the weekend and the main way you stay in contact with your wife, ugh.

The cooling fan I ordered came in on Friday but when I brought my machine up to install it, it wouldn't fit. I'm not entirely sure it's a heating issue now, since I've had the side off of the PC and a fan blowing directly into it and on the gfx card and it still locks up. I'm thinking it's either a hardware (good lord please say it isn't) or some other software problem, and as stated above the new drivers held up well enough last night, so we'll see. I asked them to look into new gfx cards for me on Monday and find one with a better built-in fan that's not too expensive, though the thought of buying another new gfx card after just buying a fricking entirely new system less than 2 months ago is also frustrating, heh.

Other than that, I did finish a book I've been reading for awhile, which was number two in a series of two books. That was nice, to finish that up, even though the ending was a little meh. I may go and read for awhile now before the 5:30pm action, I've still got a bunch of books I'm in the middle of that I should get back to reading. That may help relax me a little too, that and a continued smooth performance tonight would be awesome.

This week's not too bad, work-wise, no court at all, and I've got a ticket for Blue Rodeo at the George St. Festival on Thursday night so there's that to look forward to as well. And I thiiiiiink next weekend is a long weekend, maybe? Though now that I think about it, it may be a civic holiday out here but I believe I have court in the city, dammit. >.< I think it's an Aion weekend too. We'll see what happens at any rate. Hope everyone else had a good weekend!
I finally got my DVD burner today in the mail, woohoo! And now I can watch DVDs on my computer again, as well as burn them. So I promptly tested it out by screencapping a shot from Napoleon Dynamite and making the icon you now see before you. Good times.

Work wasn't too bad today, so busy though, omg. Two trials, a hearing, a first appearance and a case management meeting, all within a 48 hour period. Less than that, really. I'll be so, so happy come Friday, let me tell you.

The Pearl Jam concert this weekend past was awesome too. I don't think I've written about that yet, hmm. They played a ton of songs, alomst 3 hours in total, which was sweet. I was trés impressed with the selection, they played just about all of the staples (Jeremy was the only one I missed really) and a ton of quasi-obscure selections, including one of my faves, Rearviewmirror. And they even played a Who cover, Baba O'Reilly. That was awesome. :D

I really should clean up my room, 'cause damn, this is a huge mess. I just don't know where to put it all though, I'm running out of room. That and I'm lazy. We'll see, maybe I can make a dent into it before bed tonight. Only 30 mins before The Daily Show, maybe I can work on it that long, then watch the show and hit the hay. Stranger things have happened, people!

I leave you with some (disappointing) meme-age.
Music meme! )
Fitting line because a.) I'm seeing Pearl Jam tonight, and b.) 'cause of my financial situation. -.-; But anyway, thanks to several people (you know who you are! ♥), a round of golf and the good possibility of selling off my extra ticket, tihngs are looking up. Yay!

Today's round of golf was actually worse than my first, overall, but I had more nice shots, if that makes sense. On the last hole I had my best drive ever, which was awesome. As long as you hit at least one nice shot, it's enough to bring you back for more, or so they say.

Anyway, off to the city for now. Here's hoping the rest of the day goes well, and likewise for all of you. :)

Made yet another icon. Yay for The Office! Other than that, nothing new today. Work was alright, court went well thankfully. The only news of the day was my friend, who I bought a Pearl Jam ticket for, has to work now and I only found out today. So... does anyone want to buy a ticket? XD I asked a bunch of people to check around for me and made a post in [livejournal.com profile] newfoundland, so here's hoping I can do something with it. Bah.

Anyway, on that happy note, off to bed for me.

So, I watched The Wall, the movie, today. Kinda messed up. I like listening to the album itself more though. Such an awesome album. I also watched Coffee & Cigarettes tonight, which I bought for cheap weeks and weeks ago. Eh, it was ok. Only paid like $10 for it, so I can live with that.

Went back and memoried a bunch of stuff too, which was awesome. Now everything I wanted to go back and record is done, yay! Took me long enough, but I think it's worth it. I'll have to remember to keep doing it in the future.

I think it's kinda sad that I have last Saturday's paper here and I still haven't read it. It's only once in a blue moon that I get one, and now I know why. Oh well, the crossword, wordfind etc. will still be do-able no matter how long I take to get through it, heh. And the comics! I must read those sometime too.

It was a good weekend, nice and lazy. Next weekend is Pearl Jam, and I know that'll be a lot more hectic. So it was nice to relax for this one, 'cause there'll be lots of driving and concert-going next weekend. I still haven't decided if I'll go into the city on Friday after work or on Saturday. It gets dark so early now that even if I left at 5, right after work, I'd be driving in the dark for the last part. I might be better off going in Saturday afternoon, that also removes the temptation of blowing mucho deniro in town on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Perhaps that's what I'll do. Only thing is that means a lot of driving in a shorter time span, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon, instead of Friday night and Sunday afternoon. I've got all week to see anyway, so no worries.

Annnnnnnnnnd to close out the night, a few memes.

Well, the weekend went well. Got to my friend's place on Friday after 3.5 hours of driving and we hung out, then Saturday we went to the local driving range there and I got my first golfing experience. It's very fun, and today before I left we went out again. I'm going to try to get a loan of some clubs from the boss, or maybe see if he's looking to sell any of his old sets, try to get into it more. It's very fun, and I'm inclined to try the driving range out this way now too.

After all that, we headed to the concert yesterday afternoon around suppertime. It was raining sporadically so we stopped to buy a raincoat for my friend, who didn't bring one. There I saw the new PSPs, and I'd been thinking about getting one for awhile now, so I did. Even though I totally can't afford it or anything, I bought it and put it in the car before we went to the concert.

The concert was great too, we really only saw the last band, which was the only good one there. The only other band whose set we mostly saw was Finger Eleven, and they were ok but, well, eh. The Hip were good though, but they didn't play much old stuff at all. Up to the 2nd encore (yes, there were two), they're only played a grand total of one song from their first two LPs. One. I wasn't too impressed, since those are perhaps my two favourite albums by them. But in the second encore of just 3 songs, 2 of them were from their first full length album, and I was happy.

I played with the PSP a bit today, but on the drive back my senses finally kicked in and I brought it back to another Wal-Mart on the way back. It's a neat device but I just got back from spending a lot of money on my vacation, and recently got my iPod, so it'd be total overkill to get something I don't even need. Maybe someday later when they go down in price / I have more money. My friends totally tried to talk me out of it, but that only made me want it more. Stupid reverse psychology.

Anyway, it was a good weekend. This week should be ok too, with work looking alright (though who knows what awaits me in the office tomorrow morning -.-;) and the new Harry Potter book arriving in the mail soon. Next time I won't preorder it, I have no idea why I keep doing that when the stores around me constantly surprise me by having it in stock. Oh well, no big hurry to read it, 'cause it'll be another few years before the next one I imagine.

So, today was pretty good. I ended up getting my first hug from the parent of a client, as I successfully argued someone's case in court. The guy was already serving a sentence arising from a breach of probation, and he might've been in jail until his trial on this other matter in frickin' December. He didn't deserve any time at all for the original charge, so we dealt with that and now once he's finished this short sentence, he's out for good. All hands were very grateful, it's nice to be able to help people when they need it. ^_^

Tomorrow should be good, I was working late last night for today's court appearance so I'm leaving after lunch. I'll be heading for Gander, staying with a friend there tomorrow night and then attending the Salmon Festival. It should be fun, though the only band I really wanna see is The Tragically Hip. I'm sure the other bands will be ok too, and we're not going 'til later on anyway. Good times!

So I'll be back on Sunday I think, not sure if I'll be online at all from now 'til then, but I'm sure you'll all be fine without me. :)

Oh! I also recently submitted some Firefly icons (of Kaylee, specifically) to this community, [livejournal.com profile] abc_icons, in this post here. They're not that good, but a few came out ok. It was my first stab at doing a theme, and hopefully I'll get better at it, but check them out if you'd like. :D

After trying since they went on sale at 10am, I finally got a ticket to see Pearl Jam. The only problem was I was supposed to get 4. >.>; The good news, kinda, is one of those 4 was for a friend of a friend, and if he doesn't get to go with us, well, I don't really care. ^^;; But my other friend got 2 next to each other, so I might go with him, and I snagged one single close by to those seats for another friend. The other person I was going to get a ticket for told me not to get one after. The reason being that,a fter trying allllll morning, I couldn't get even 2 seats together. admission.com sucks ass. >:o So I got just the one single, and if my friend doesn't want that, I can sell it to someone else I guess. The concert's not until September anyway.

So tired, I went to bed around 5 and got up just before 10, with the intent of hopping online, quickly getting tickets, then going back to my warm, comfy bed. Hah. Serves me right for being that naive, I suppose. Anyway, I have a ticket, so it's all good. Stupid online service though, it's really terrible. But on the bright side, I've never been up this early on a Saturday for a long, long time. Yay for having the rest of the day to do stuff! ^_^
