memories

So yesterday I received several e-mails about old IJ accounts that were marked for deletion. Last year I got the same notices, only instead of actually acting on them and saving the ones I wanted I totally let things slide and lost a bunch of them, including the one I used for ficlets and such. :/ I didn't have all that much written there, mind, and most of it is probably still on my hard drive somewhere, but still, that sucked. I also lost a few character journals that weren't such a great loss but I was still kicking myself for not saving them.

Because of that, I made sure to log on and save the journals I got notices about yesterday, though many of them had me scratching my head about why I'd made them in the first place. There's multilayered, one I made for a Paige I never really got to play much since the game died pretty early iirc, feeltheearth, who was an OC in a legacy game that I don't think ever got started, gutshot, a Cannonball journal for an old-timey, Civil War era AU game that... either never got off the ground or I never joined, I can't remember which, and hellotimebomb, a Tabby character for a game that died shortly after I joined. I think it had been dying for awhile but it was a cool concept iirc but didn't last, sadly.

([eta] I just realized all those characters are Guthries (the OC's mother was Melody Guthrie) and Tabby, haha, that's kinda cool. :D)

Looking back at those journals got me looking at some of my older ones too, which brought back lots of memories and got me reading some old fic and logs. Now I'm all nostalgic and inspired to write again, which is great when coupled with the wind in my sails post-Genosha in XP, so here's hoping I can get a lot done this weekend.

In other news, I've been playing Draw Something on my phone which has been fun. It didn't occur to me until now to ask if anyone here plays it, as I've only been playing with my sister-in-law and her hubby so far, along with one random person I found through the random player search. It's pretty fun, I've gotta say, and I've unlocked a few more colours so far which helps with the drawing part. If anyone wants to add me my username there's jeffslade, easy enough to remember I hope.

Lastly, I've been spoiling our cat Simon so much lately omg. I didn't realize how much until we got him these new treats. You see, previously he'd gobble up the odd treat we'd give him every now and then and be happy, but he wouldn't come looking for more or anything. The last time we got him some supplies in town, however, I picked up this bag of natural salmon flavoured treats and he goes positively bananas for them. We'd feed him treats in our palms before and he'd nibble gently at them but for these new ones he'll stand up on his hind legs, reaching up and gripping my hand with his paws (one on front, one on the back of my hand) and pull my hand to his mouth. Seriously, he will just about climb my leg to get them, and he meows and meows and meows for them very often. I used to give him 3-4 of them when I came home for lunch, then again after supper, but now he cries for them almost all the time, it's ridiculous. First thing that happens when I get up in the morning, as he's often asleep with us on the bed, is he sees me moving and "meoooooooooooooow~!" while he stalks me, almost tripping me up this morning in my feet, until I give him some.

It's cute when he's eating the treats, but damn, he is constantly craving them now. The bag does say the recommended amount for his size/weight is 8-10 pieces per serving, and two servings per day, so we're not giving him too many I don't think, but it's just the crying and begging that's getting out of hand. Not sure what to do, other than maybe gradually easing back and staying on a fixed schedule until he gets used to it. Not a huge problem, just very odd how fast it happened. Oh Simon. ♥

Wow, it really has been ages since I wrote anything here. I could've sworn I'd done a post since I got back to Newfoundland but it doesn't look like it, huh. Well, where to start? For the sake of brevity (and also because I've likely forgotten a lot of details / things) I'll do most of this in bullet point form.

· We saw Bruce Springsteen play in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center back on March 28th, and wow. Just an amazing show, can't even put it into words, at least not in any form that'd do it justice. The theme for the night was changes, very fitting for us, and they were in top form. The tributes to Danny and Clarence brought tears to my eyes, and the tribute to the Big Man during 10th Avenue Freeze-Out was a religious experience. Heck, the whole show was, to me anyway. So very happy I got to see them live, and even happier I got to share that with [livejournal.com profile] believeitup.

· We left on Monday, April 2nd to drive back to Canada. The 10' U-Haul truck I'd reserved wasn't available so they bumped us up to a 14' one at no cost. It was for the best in the end, even if it was hella intimidating to have to drive a 22' long vehicle that far (the storage was 14', truck and all was 22' total x.x), because we had a bigger cab and that meant more room for Simon in his carrier and us. It was a great trip, getting to see friends along the way and lots of scenery, though it was rough on poor Simon who consequently made it rough on us, heh. But we survived, and so did Simon, who's pretty settled into his new digs now. :)

· We arrived in NL on Good Friday and have been steadily unpacking and straightening things away ever since. We're getting there, though there's always going to be something else to do; such is the nature of home ownership, or so I'm told. It's been going so well though, getting government IDs and programs set up, a new car for the missus, all that administrative stuff has gone very well and honestly faster than expected. The unpacking too has been nice, though I don't know if it's that from this weekend or a touch of the flu that has me so so so congested this morning, ugh.

· We have HD set up at home now, woo, and a lightning fast internet connection that omg I am so happy with. Both I guess, really, because HD rocks. So nice to finally be able to use the TV we got so long ago. Getting used to the PVR too, I've set up a few shows to record, it's great. Hockey in HD is awesome too, though it made watching my boys bow out of the playoffs tough. >.> In truth we had gone to bed for overtime of Game 7 of the Boston/Washington series and both of us had nodded off and missed the OT goal that clinched it for the Caps, haha. Alas. We have mainlined Community and are now caught up and watching it in real time (last week's Law & Order one was omg amazing), and are now making our way through Parks and Recreation. We've also watched a lot of Storage Wars and Pawn Stars, as you do.

· Writing has been horrible for me, sadly, and I feel like a total failure in that vein, because I really have been. I've been so slow and absent for XP the last month, though I'm hopefully turning the corner on that one. I bowed out of the two Big Bangs I'd signed up for because I couldn't write anything, and I have a little story due today for a 1k fic exchange that I really need to tidy up and send off by the end of the day. That'll be about the only thing I've accomplished in the last month or more, which is pretty sad, but it'll be ok.

· In gaming news, I've preordered both Diablo III and Guild Wars 2 and am looking forward to them both. I've had trouble installing the former which I should work on tonight, as it goes live on May 15th, but there was a beta for the latter this past weekend that was pretty fun. It looks like a great little MMO, and I haven't really touched LOTRO in so long, so we'll see what happens I guess. I've also been toying with proposing a D&D campaign by mail to people in XP but honestly I've been so absent lately I don't think it'd be proper to throw that out there all of a sudden, haha. "Hey guys, I'm not rping much at all lately but let's do something else where I can fail you! :D" I know, I know, too negative, but I am messing around and making characters so once I've done that (and once I've been better at tagging logs and such) we'll see. :)

That's about it really, I suppose. There's likely more to post about but it's almost lunch time and I'm staaaaaarving, so if anything else comes to me I'll make another post or something. And hopefully I'll be posting here again more regularly too, that might help with the whole writing thing, you know, actually writing and all. XD
I discovered tonight that while riding my Wii!bike in one of the Wii Fit games, your Wii!pet that you've entered can chase you along. In this case, Simon chases me around, which often results in me jerking the wheel to avoid running him over, and Wii!me falling off of bridges and cliffs. Very fitting, somehow.

At least my Wii!wife was on the course and directed me the last flag I had trouble finding, that was nice too. :)

So, I'm on Day 4 of trying to be good and exercising. There's a road block up ahead, however; Blue Rodeo concert on Saturday means a trip to the city (and picking up the Blu Ray player I bought online at Futureshop, woo!) and likely a movie, which means popcorn. And probably having supper in there, where I'll try to be good. And a brunch on Sunday, which, well, that shouldn't be too, too bad, but we'll see.

But yes! I've been using the Wii Fit Plus for four days straight and it's been going well. Today I found a bunch of new mini games I didn't know existed, omg, so awesome. AND I found out you can enter your pet on the system. XDDDDDD I added Simon, picking a good colour and match for him, but then they wanted me to weigh him, with me picking him up. Which, uh, oops. So I scooped up some pillows and he's horribly underweighed, but my cat is in Wii Fit with me and that gives me great lulz. XD

Back to my spinach salad supper, mmm. Here's hoping I can stick with this whole thing. :)
