Day 10
In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (Or a few!) Tell us what makes it work for you, and why it appeals to you so much. Talk about what you like to see in fanworks featuring that theme most. Feel free to include recs and examples! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I don't really have a lot of these, to be honest. I suppose if I had to pick one, it'd be the classic slow burn situation. I like to write (and read) longform fic that builds things up over time rather than just jumping into things.

Other than that I read a little bit of everything, I suppose. :)

I think that's a thing! Are you talking specifically about getting together fics with a slow burn? Is there pining? I like slow-burn but I tend to prefer things that don't stretch it out to over like, say 20k of pre-relationship. I get tired (read: if the fic is 50k, I'd rather 30k+ involved intermittent porn situations). But there are always exceptions.

Yessss! It's so good. Especially when it's not canon, but even then, just setting up the vibes of 'these people are into each other!!!!!' and seeing where it goes, god. So wonderful.

(Note: I also come at this from a place of being soooo bad at emotional plot as a writer, so I'm always in awe of people who do it well! I'm good at straight-up porn or gen. I'm okay at genre plot. Emotional plot is my Everest.)

I'm afraid I don't know your fandoms, but in terms of recs:

It's not officially marked as slowburn, but one of my favourites has to be World Ain't Ready, by [archiveofourown.org profile] idiopathicsmile. 185K, modern high school AU Enjolras/Grantaire with fake dating for Great Justice, and it's really, really good. I didn't know much about the ABC folks when I first read it (and in fact I still don't--I keep meaning to read Les Mis but it is taking me forever), but I absolutely loved it.

If "take a long time to get the relationship going, but also have separate, non-relationship plot threads that keep going with the established relationship once they get together" count, I should also rec The Republic of Heaven Community Radio series, by , a great 567K HDM/WtNV fusion with amazing OCs and a really great Carlos/Cecil plotline; and Down to Agincourt, by [archiveofourown.org profile] seperis, a Destiel Supernatural fic where canon-timeline-Dean ends up in the Endverse again. It's very good, and also very long; 1,077,010 words at last count, and still in progress. And it takes the main pairing a long time to get together--IIRC, they're still not together by the start of the third fic, which is to say about 300 000 words in.
