Just randomly rifled through some old pictures, as I was toying with the idea of using an old Hallowe'en picture as a profile pic on Facebook for Hallowe'en this year (hey, if I don't dress up irl then I can claim I dressed up on there, yeah? XD), and found some old ones from law school. They were taken at the girls' house (4 girls from my glass who lived around the corner from our apartment, right next to the nearest corner store, and where I'd spend a lot of time visiting), which was nice to think back on, and then I saw the date of the picture. 2001, or almost a decade ago. And that was 2nd year law school, so for the first Hallowe'en party I had there in 2000 it was exactly a decade ago, wow. I think if I rooted around my hard drive at home I could dig up some pictures of that year too.

But yeah, wow, over a full decade since law school started. Law school, as in after my five years at MUN, as in after high school too, just... wow. Just kinda hit me that time, I guess.

Somewhat relatedly, no idea what to do this year, and said I'd attend a friend's party. There are three on the go this weekend that I'm asked to, and really don't know what to do - try to make all three for a bit, only do one, none at all - but I'm leaning towards trying to make at least two of them. Two of them are close to each other, while one's aaaaaaaaaall the way on the other side of town, so yeah, may hit the two closest ones. Which means no drinking for me since I'll be driving, at least unless I park the car at the 2nd stop and leave it there overnight, hmm. We'll see anyway, may take my friend with me who hurt his hand and can't drive, though he shouldn't be mixing alcohol with his painkillers either so I dunno, heh. We'll see I guess, need an idea first at any rate and that's the hold up right now.

Reading someone else's journal today ([livejournal.com profile] captainsblog, for the record) reminded me of my old university days, in particular the residence I used to live in and the tunnels that run throughout the campus and the artwork located therein. There's one mural - I presume it's still there - that we painted in my second year of residence, while I was the Treasurer, that won 1st place in the little orientation residence competition. I loved that picture, walking past it on the way to and from class always made me feel a little proud. It was just outside our residence's entrance to the tunnels, and was a portrayal of the Mars Rover landing on Mars, only to find that the Burke bunny (John Rabot, oh the puns) had beaten it there, hah. I forget the exact theme, either Exploration / Discovery or something, I believe. Actually, yeah, that would've been 1997 and the 500th anniversary of Cabot's landing in NL, so that makes sense. It was a cool painting, and I played a part in its creation / painting, and I think my initials should still be painted onto the thing. Provided it's not been painted over and/or vandalized, that is.

Thinking back to that specific detail brought me back to many other memories, and I eventually ended up checking out the web to see if our old website was still up. Sadly, it isn't; I did find a cached snapshot of it, on a translation site of all places, where MUN's then latin motto, provehito in altum, was on our site. I used to manage the website while I was there, and I'm a little sorry to see that it and apparently all the other residence houses' sites are no longer available, at least not through the MUN Housing site like they used to be, and Google didn't give me anything. It also made me wonder how much else from my time there is left; there's likely the annual pictures on the wall in the house (they went back pretty far while I was there anyway, but it has been a decade, wow), but there were many sheets put up every Burke Day for people to sign for posterity's sake, for example. How many things like that have survived, I wonder? We did make a yearbook during my second year, I think I'll look that up and pull it off the shelf if I can find it. Ah, memories.

On the upside, there is a Facebook group for our house, and it seems the majority of people there are alumni, a lot from my era, hah. The logo for that page, by the by, is a .gif I made ages ago when I was making the house website, which made me grin a little. :) The design (a pair of shades with rabbit ears and nose detail) wasn't designed by me but by my buddy, Darcy, but I translated it into digital format, coloured it, etc. Just nice to see a small part of it live on, I suppose.
