A lot of things have happened lately, none of which I've had time to write about in here until now, really. Work had slowly been getting better, though just as busy, and it was only a matter of time before the other shoe dropped I think, and drop it did.
On Wednesday I had court in St. John's and went in the night before, and sure enough on Wednesday morning we had a lot of wind and snow, it was just plain miserable. My court appearance for 10am was put over until 12:30pm and it lasted until closer to 2:00pm. After that I had to go downtown to drop some things off at the other court and while walking down a hill to get to the bank (I had to pay $13.00 to register a document and I didn't have one of the girls do up a cheque the day before) I slipped and fell, landing square on my tailbone and winding myself while giving my back a good crack in the process. Luckily a couple of nice people stopped to see if I was ok and helped me up, and after resting long enough to catch my breath and straighten up I finished what I had to do and then met my buddy for lunch before going home. It was sore all night and I put the heating pad on it, and the next morning I was still sore so I took some painkillers and put the pad on it again, opting to stay home for at least the morning.
I called in sick to work a little before 9:00am, and then a little after that we got a call from the hospital that my grandfather had passed away. He'd been sick for a long time now, and they actually called my father and his siblings in on both Christmas Eve and New Year's Day, thinking that was it for him. They had been there the whole night before and came back home ~7:00am, and then a little more than 2 hours later he was gone. I ended up going into the office after lunch because I had things that I picked up in the city that had to be dropped off but it was a little weird, also 'cause my back was still hurting. Friday was pretty stormy and while we opened the office in the a.m. we closed around 11:30am, which was good because I got to come home and rest my back some more and talk to my aunts, uncles and cousins about everything. Thursday night was a lot of that too, and Saturday as well. Friday afternoon we didn't go to the funeral home since it was so stormy so we did that yesterday afternoon, then last night when our parents went back down I stayed home with my sister, my cousin David and my little cousin Nicole to look after her and help her keep her mind off of it. They stayed until the parents et al came back around 11:00pm and everyone was gone by 11:30pm, except for David who stayed here with us in the spare bedroom. Shortly after that I was getting ready for bed for what was sure to be a long day.
Today my sister, cousin and I left around 11:00am to meet with dad and everyone else who went earlier that morning, and there was a last showing until ~12pm when they had a short family service before closing the casket. The hardest part of the whole thing was poor Nan and watching her go through it all, as well as my aunt (the only surviving daughter and who stuck with Nan most of the time) and uncles. Along with 2 uncles, dad and 2 cousins I was a pall bearer so we had to bring the casket to the church, and after the ceremony we had to take the casket back out and then to the grave site, where there was another little ceremony. Thankfully they didn't lower the casket while we were there, that would've been too hard to go through I think. We then came back to my uncle's and all had supper and such before going our separate ways, and my sister came back with me and prepared to go back to the city with her boyfriend. Since then I've just been home doing nothing, watching the All-Star game and trying to type this up. I'm pretty tired too, it was a long day and really draining so I think I'm going to get into bed and either watch some tv or read for a little bit.
