Most of you have probably already read my wife's entry about the same, but yeah, no coverage for Igor flooding damage. Which, well, there were people who lost their entire homes, their vehicles, so many other irreplaceable things, and we were pretty lucky, but still. There are government claims available I believe and we'll look into them if we qualify.
The biggest expense for us, aside from now having to replace the flooring in the basement (which arguably had to be done anyway, or will be an improvement at any rate), is the thousands of dollars to dig a ditch on a grade in the back, fill it with crushed stone, a perforated pipe for carrying water away, some weeping tile, then filling that back up with more crushed stone and covering it back up again. It'll (hopefully) prevent any future flooding down the road, which shouldn't happen any time soon, but at least we're prepared if it ever does. And it's improvement to the land too that'll carry with it if/when we sell the property down the road, but it's still a hit up front that wasn't anticipated. Not that there's anything for it, but here's hoping the government will help with some of it or at least some of the damage since the insurance company sure as hell isn't doing anything for anyone.
