So, this was the first real long weekend of the summer and it was a pretty nice one. It started off with a busy Friday for me, consisting of heading into St. John's after work for the annual Law Society Dinner & Dance. My friend who works in Marystown won two awards during the Bar Course last fall and got two free tickets, one of which was kindly given to me. It was great, and little did I know but because of her awards we were seated at the head table. They sat people across from each other to encourage discussion, so I ended up chatting with former Premier / Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal of NL Clyde Wells, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of NL T. Alex Hickman's wife and several other people. It was great though, lots of meeting higher ups, talking to my old boss and coworker, and even running into an old college buddy of mine who was another lawyer's guest.
After that I headed to the Ship Inn to see my buddy Mike's band play. They started at around 12:30 and played until 1:30ish and did a great job. They're playing again next week on the 30th and since I have Tuesday off for Canada Day I might go in to see them again, we'll see I suppose. After that I went to J&A's and crashed for the night since I was pretty wiped.
Saturday was more relaxed. I slept in late, then got up and hung out with Alex for a bit, dropping my electric guitar off at Griffith's Guitar Works to give it a much-needed overhaul. They showed me some options for new pickups too but I don't know if that's cost feasible for me at the moment sadly. The noiseless ones I'd like to get would be almost as much as I paid for the guitar and amp together, haha. We shall see! After that we met my friend from Marystown again along with one of her buddies and saw Get Smart, which was pretty awesome actually. Steve Carell rocks, Anne Hathaway is so cute and overall the whole movie was better than I expected it to be. Good times! I hung out with Alex for awhile after that, going around the mall a little (I picked up a couple of Coheed & Cambria cds to try and season 2 of Supernatural for just $30), had supper and then drove back home where I chatted with
believeitup before sleeping.
On Sunday I pretty much just slept in and hung out online for awhile, delving into LOTRO for a bit until the servers went down later that night. After that it was more hanging out with
believeitup online before sleeping again, which was earlier than I would've liked. For some reason I was pretty tired this weekend, but thankfully I was able to get lots of sleep to help with that. I also caught up on BSG by watching the last two episodes and wow, very cool stuff!
Today was Discovery Day and a holiday for me. Even though I probably should've at least popped into the office to see what was going on and maybe send off a letter or two I didn't, oops. It was like 23-24 C degrees out (~75 F) which was very warm for me, so I spent the afternoon out on the patio with our new little set, taking my laptop and other supplies with me. I have pictures!
( +3! )
I mainly messed around online and read a lot, finishing off The Amber Spyglass tonight, woo. It took me ages because I kept getting sidetracked but that's done now and I really enjoyed it even if it was pretty sad. And now it's time to sleep since I have work in the a.m., ugh. Here's hoping I won't be too far back from not going in at all over the weekend. At least it will be a short week no matter what!
