It's been awhile since I've had time to update my journal, at least with anything but a short blurb here and there. So I decided before losing myself in LOTRO, as I've done doing pretty much all the time lately, that I'd make a concerted effort to make a nice, detailed entry in here for a change. So here we go!
Work has been insanely busy lately, mainly thanks to one of our most senior legal assistants being off work due to doctor's orders for an injury. I think she'll be back soon, in about two weeks or so, and in the meantime we did hire someone else, but another one of the assistants is pregnant and will likely be off on maternity leave in the next few weeks, just when the other person is due back, heh. At least we have someone else hired who's been working out great, but it still kinda feels like one step up, two steps back. Personally, I've been able to work through a lot of difficult files / situations lately, which is quite awesome. Don't get me wrong, I still have a lot of crap to sort out, but a lot of the big, scary things that were really making me nervous not too long ago have been taken care of, phew. It's still gonna be busy but at least I'm not dreading going into the office in the morning. Well, not as much anyway, hehe.
Plans are still being made by
believeitup and myself for our wedding, which is pretty awesome. It's still a little intimidating - not the actual thought of being married to her, because that is an amazing thought and I cannot wait for it to become reality - but the actual planning and trying to figure things out so far in advance. It'll all be worth it though, of course, and it's not really all that bad, it's just a huge step in one's life, is all. We're trying to figure out how to pick out actual wedding bands now, which I need to check out the next time I'm in the city perhaps. It's kinda tricky to do long distance, but it'll all work out. I'm thinking I'll go back to the place where I got the engagement ring and see what they can do for me, hopefully they'll be just as helpful as they were before.
I've been listening to a lot of newer stuff lately, mainly this new CD by The Lonely Island, who are a comedy / music group. They've got some funny stuff, and some decent songs if you're into that kind of thing. I've been listening to that, the new Springsteen, and the new Franz Ferdinand, all of which I recommend to others. There's still a lot of other things I want to play, including this new anniversary edition I have of Hendrix's Electric Ladyland, but it's been hard to find the time and I've mainly been filling what little time I do have with the aforementioned three albums or just using random play.
I haven't had the opportunity to see a lot of movies in the theatre lately, sadly. The last one I saw was a few weeks ago when I was in the city the night before a court appearance and I caught the new Underworld flick, which honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I had hoped to see The Wrestler, urged on to see it by the inclusion of Springsteen's single for the movie on his new CD, but it wasn't playing at the mall. I've bought a few more DVDs lately, which is a bad habit I need to be careful of, but I've been happy with my purchases. Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist is fantastic, which I figured it'd be and was hoping to see it in theatres last fall but missed it. I'm glad I bought that sight unseen; anything with Michael Cera and Kat Denning together in it is made of win, for sure. I also bought Zack & Miri Make A Porno, which was another film I'd wanted to see in theatres but missed out on. It was pretty damn funny if you like those Judd Apatow films with the same cast of regulars, even though this one was written and I think directed too by Kevin Smith. It was a nice cross over of both worlds of actors, though it was mainly the Apatow crew (Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, etc.) though it was cool seeing Jeff Anderson and Jason Mewes acting again.
LOTRO's been going well, really well. Last weekend we finally took down the Watcher, which is the newest raid instance in the game that drops the uberest loot, heh. I even tanked the big guy, being the one he was aggro'd on and attacking the whole time, for all of his 500k+ morale. The only down side was there was some drama over the fact that the raid that took him down wasn't one where people were asked to sign up for him, it was a privately organized run. This weekend we have another kin run, advertised for and posted on the site so people can sign up for it, and we're hoping to have two kicks at the can. Here's hoping they both go as well as last week's run and we can get another couple of 1st age items for the kin. Other than that, the other big news I have to share is that I was made an Officer of the kin last night, which was a little out of the blue but greatly appreciated, to say the least. I was an Officer in our much smaller kin that
believeitup,
girlyduck, and others were in before BotRH, which my buddy Brad and I formed ourselves, but this is a much bigger honour to me. Not to put down our old kin, not at all, but becoming an Officer here took a lot more effort and dedication, I suppose, and I've put a lot of time and effort on both my own characters and helping other kinmates with their characters, so it's nice to have officially "earned my wings," so to speak. Or, you know, I'm taking the whole game too seriously and it's no big deal, one or the other. XD
I really have been missing Simon lately, though I do get constant updates from
believeitup and he's doing really well, which is the main thing. And of course I miss her like crazy, but I do miss the cat too. I mean, I only got to be around him for a week or so and it's not like that's a super long time to get attached to a pet, or is it? I've not had one since I was really small and then we didn't have one for long, heh, so this is all pretty new to me. I do know I miss him though, I'm just wondering if maybe I shouldn't be after only having been around him for such a short period of time, you know? I'm probably not making sense at this point, hehe. Let's just say that I'm glad he's doing well and I do miss the little fella, and hopefully I'll be seeing him soon.
Well, there you have it. Not much else to say, really, not at the moment anyway. Things have been getting better lately, which is always a good thing, and while I still miss my fiancĂ©e I've been finding ways to deal with it, along with her awesome assistance, of course. ♥ Everything else is calming down and falling into place, which is a good thing. I'm definitely feeling much better lately than I did a month or so ago, and maybe part of that is the nice, mild winter we've been having and the constantly lengthening days, but whatever it is I hope it keeps going this way. And I hope everyone else is doing well, too. :)

Cause if it's you, and if it's here, and if you ever EVER need a reference from, like, an actual Lawyer Who Doesn't Play One on TV, I'd be honored.
Get used to the spelling on that.
