So, it's been awhile since I wrote in here. Nothing too exciting to report, but I'll put it behind a cut because I have a feeling I may get ramble-y just the same.

Stuff! )

Also, Happy Thanksgiving to my American family and friends, hope you have a great holiday! :)

Weird day

So, today ended up being a day off of sorts for me. Well, totally a day off because our office was closed all day and I didn't go to work, but it was because of Hurricane Leslie, which (thankfully) turned into Tropical Storm Leslie shortly after getting here.

Thankfully it went way better for us than the last big storm; the last one cost us a tree and basically had us redo our entire basement, all the flooring right down to the earth and ground up to 3' high of all the walls. It was a nightmare, walking into our basement and having the water be up to your knees, but at least we didn't have much there back then. Had that happened today, however, omg. Don't even want to think about it, and luckily we didn't have to worry much. Our part of the island only had to put up with the strong winds, and we got very little rain. Our power was only out until 11-11:30am or so, that was nice too. Other places in the city, including my sister's place, still don't have power, and there was some major damage in some places but we got out unscathed this time around.

I feel a little like I wasted the day but I did get some work done around the house, got to spend quality time with the cat haha, and had a nice day overall, so I shouldn't beat myself up over it. I also got to see Close Encounters of the Third Kind for the first time ever (I know, I know) which was nice too.

Tomorrow it's off to court, giving my uncle a ride into town to the airport on the way, then supper with friends after before coming back out. Should be a nice time, and I'll also be holding my breath that the meeting I hear the NHL and the NHLPA have in the morning turns out to be really good news.

I wanted to write this entry when I got up yesterday morning, at around 10:30am, but I never did. That kinds sums me up lately, I think; inertia, aspirations with no follow through, wanting to do a bunch of things but not doing anything. Ok, well, I can't say I didn't do anything because I did mess around with some graphics, did a lot of writing for RP, got a bit of work done today, etc. I just didn't get to a lot of the bigger picture things I had in mind, I suppose.

It was a very quiet weekend, but not that bad overall. Friday night saw me sitting out to give someone else a chance to raid, helping out a friend with some real life issues, then getting tagged back into the raid later in the evening. We made some great progress which was nice but I stayed up entirely too late and there was more kin drama to deal with before sleeping.

Yesterday I didn't do anything, really, aside from watching hockey as it was Hockey Day in Canada. Funny enough, though, the game I enjoyed the most was the Boston/Nashville matinee, which saw my Bruins come back from a deficit late in the game and win in a shootout. This was the day I played around with Photoshop and played a lot of Eternal Sonata. I've been trying to live up to my self-made promise to finish older games, watch older shows/movies, read older books etc., before buying more. On the video game front I've finished Assassin's Creed 2 and am now onto this RPG which is a pretty fun game, gotta say. I'm about 1/2 way through it now or so and really liking it, it's got a very cool theme to it, with Frederic Chopin being on his deathbed and you're playing these characters in his dreams. The music is beautiful, real Chopin compositions are included, and all the characters/locations are named after musical terms. More info here for those so inclined to check it out further. Later in the night I was feeling sick so I went to bed before 12 for a change, only to get up again for awhile to engage in some XP group chat that was pretty cool. :)

Today I got up and went to work pretty much right away, getting a few things done. I played more Eternal Sonata after that and after supper, and now I'm just watching the Grammys. Disappointed that Kanye isn't there, since he's up for 7 awards and I was hoping to see him and Jay-Z maybe do a number, alas. Bruce did the opening though which was pretty cool, can't believe it's only a little over a month until I get to see him live omg. x.x

And on that note, back to watching the show. It's 11:30 now and tomorrow's going to be a long day, ugh, but this week will be better than the last several, it will, it has to be, right? Right.
It was a pretty nice weekend, I've gotta say. We never did get the monster storm that everyone was predicting for all of last week, really; Friday night saw some snow fall (though none had really started by the time I went to bed closer to 3am) and there was maybe, what, 10-15cm to deal with Saturday morning, but we were supposed to get 10-20cm overnight Friday and then 20-30cm on Saturday I think, which, no. It was windy and freezing cold but not that bad at all, all things considered. Last Thursday had actually been worse, in the morning anyway, though that too had cleared up pretty much completely by lunch (which was good as I still had to drive into St. John's after lunch). Because of the fear of the storm, the grocery store and the mall in general was blocked Friday after work, but I still managed to pick up some wings - Thai and Honey Garlic kinds - and some snacks - this awesome mini cookie cake thingy with chocolate sauce in the middle, sort of like a lava cake made of cookie - for the Super Bowl. Which I didn't really watch all that much but more on that later.

Friday night involved the usual LOTRO raid, which wasn't too bad. The week before I got very frustrated with it, at least I think that was the week before. Anyway, I'd been working on my character and getting my morale (your health in game) much higher so I wouldn't die so much, and I think I've done a good job of that now. The problem with Friday was banging our head against the wall on trying to do the new raid at Tier 2, the hardest setting, as opposed to Tier 1. Tier 2 has better rewards but is much, much more difficult; we've finished the whole raid on Tier 1 (well, I haven't, but the kin has) and now want to move on but it's not easy. We've still yet to get to a boss on Tier 2 yet, the groups of mobs between the entrance to the boss are tricky and we often get through 2-3 groups of them to the last group pre-boss and then can't get that last group down. And on Tier 2 you have to do the entire group before you wipe, if you don't get them all then they'll all respawn. On Tier 1 if you wipe whatever you kill stays dead so even if it's messy as hell you can get through things, not so on Tier 2. Anyway, Friday night we voted to try Tier 2 until we wiped 3-4 times, then do Tier 1. Which we did, we wiped a lot more than that, and eventually the raid leader suggested we vote to see if we should continue on with Tier 2 or switch to Tier 1. I had to speak up and say that, no, we all agreed going in to swap to t1 after a few wipes, and we'd done more than that, so we swapped to t1. Then we did 2 bosses, leaving the one we'd been banging our head up against on t2 open for Saturday night, and then I went to bed. I think some people stuck around and tried again but with no success.

Saturday was nice, I was up well before noon even, and played some more Assassin's Creed 2. I recently came to the realization that I should try and enjoy some of the mountains of media I've amassed over the years before buying any more, heh, and part of that includes video games. Like, last Thursday while in the city I saw that Final Fantasy XIII-2 is out and I was like omg WANT but, um. I got Final Fantasy XIII when it came out, strategy guide and all, and have yet to even pop it into my Xbox. >.> That's just what I do, but I'm not going to do that any more if I can help it. So I'm trying to play through things, watch things (I have SO MANY seasons of shows to watch it's not even funny, as well as movies), read things, etc., and AC2 was on the top of my list. Mainly because I already have AC: Brotherhood and they just released AC: Revelations just before Christmas and I wanted that too. XD So yes, I played more of that, then watched the Bruins lose to the Penguins in a matinee game before playing some more AC2. It was a nice day, relaxed, and I made some of the Honey Garlic wings before the LOTRO raid that night so win. Also had one of those cookie things, omg so good. The raid was more of the same, though people's patience was very raw and oh so thin. We didn't have enough to start it at first until more people showed up or came back from afks, so we ended up starting late. That's not too unusual, but the person who had lead the raid Friday night wasn't coming along because he said he couldn't stay on long. Well, he was on the entire time we were raiding, just playing PvP, and apparently after we stopped (I went to bed when we did) he did the raid with another group of people, just, rar. Something may come of that, I dunno, not cool at the very least. >:| We did more t2 attempts but never made it to the boss and no one wanted to do t1 so we just called it, earlier than Friday night too, people were just unhappy it seemed and frustrated.

Another big thing about Saturday was the amount of writing I did, all in logs for XP, omg. Close to 5k words (I'm keeping count for Get Your Words Out), mainly in one huuuuuuge log that ended up being over 11k words total, which was amazing and still has me smiling today, hehe. It was nice to get back into XP some more, I've had some kind of, I don't know, can you say writer's block for an RP? I wasn't getting much done at any rate and while I still love the game, don't get me wrong, since I went away at Christmas time I'd had a hard time getting much done there. I think I'm waking up from that hibernation however and that huge log was a big part in shaking off my slumber. :)

Sunday I was up well before noon again, which was nice, I like that. It was another nice day started off with some AC2, then watching another Bruins matinee, this weekend was awesome for hockey despite it presumably being all about football, and this time the B's won handily, dispatching the Caps 4-1. Then I played more AC2 for the afternoon, talking to a few people and just relaxing. I did pop out for lunch but then stayed in for the rest of the day. After supper it was more AC2, pausing to watch the Super Bowl when it started, but I actually flipped back and forth a lot because I was getting to the end of AC2, heh. >.> I saw the end of the first quarter, a good chunk of the second quarter, went and had a shower and a shave during the half time show (omg still loving the straight edge razor, SO AWESOME), saw part of the third, and then watched the last quarter and part of the ceremonies. I also made some more wings for the last quarter, which I burned a little, whoops, and another of the cookie dessert things omg. In between there was AC2, and after it was all over I sat down and finished the game omg. Which was awesome, I've gotta say. I don't know if people can still be spoiled for it or not, so I won't go into detail, but I was kinda spooked by the ending which involved some people talking directly to the screen as if looking/talking right at me, just creeped me out omg. x.x So sleep was hard after that. XD

All in all a very good weekend, I've got to say. The only problems with it were the head banging and frustration in LOTRO, which actually wasn't too bad for me, not nearly as frustrating personally as last week anyway, but still a downer. Hopefully next weekend will go better, we'll see, or this week for those who are able to raid during the week anyway. I think I will be trying to get 100% completion on AC2; I've only got a handful of achievements left to get and omg I've never, ever gotten 100% on a game before, so I'm kind of excited. Now that I've finished the main storyline I have full carte blanche to run wherever I want in game and do what I want so we'll see what happens. I think it's mainly a bunch of easy things but I know one will be tough, which is to defeat ten enemies in a row while in conflict without taking a hit. The not taking a hit's not too hard, especially in the earlier areas, but the problem is finding enough of them and not having them all run away on me, heh. We'll see though, will give that a shot before trying Brotherhood, but yay for finishing things I already own for a change, right? :)

Hope everyone else had a good weekend and that you have a good week ahead of you too! :D

canadiandiamond: (Laaaaaaaazy!)
It's been a long weekend for me, unintentionally so, but no real complaints here. Well, no, I had a little complaint against myself but more on that later. It started out with a snow day on Friday, which was anticipated on Thursday but I still was good and went to bed at a decent hour on Thursday night, just in case. Besides, chances were if I stayed up late and just assumed there'd be a snow day then we likely wouldn't have gotten it, heh. I just worked on my hunter a little in LOTRO, who I thiiiiink was 68 when I started playing her that night, and made an early enough night out of it by going to bed and reading. I finished Fahrenheit 451 that night too, which was awesome, and was a Christmas gift from my darling wife [livejournal.com profile] believeitup. It's the 50th anniversary edition she got me too, so it has an interview with Ray Bradbury in the back as well as an epilogue by him, so that was nice. I'm very tempted to buy this book now as a follow up but it can wait, as I have far, far, far too many things to read and watch and play etc. as it is.

Friday was a snow day after all, a particularly nasty one too. There was a lot of wind and snow, not a ton of snow but the wind stirred it all up so there were huge amounts of drifting going on and very limited visibility. In the city it was worse, as even the government offices, who are notorious for not shutting down most of the time, were closed for not just the morning but the entire day. MUN closed down, as did the malls and the buses. Out here apparently the banks were open all day but most everything else was shut down, for the morning at least. I slept in a little but was up and about by 10am or so, getting breakfast and surfing the net and all that good stuff. More work went into my hunter in LOTRO and then after lunch it got better, so when Mom suggested I check out the office and see if anyone else went over I couldn't really argue with her. I drove by around 3pm but nope, no one there. There were a few cars around though and the mall (well, Wal-Mart at least) was open, as were most of the fast food places and things, so I made a quick trip to Wal-Mart for some shampoo and things, grabbed a bite to eat, then even got my hair cut as my barber's store was open. After supper I spent the rest of my night, you guessed it, leveling my hunter, followed by a raid in LOTRO with my wife and the others in the kin. It was over sometime after 2am and then I passed out myself.

Saturday was more of the same. I slept in longer than on Friday but when I got up I went back to leveling my hunter. I got her to 75, the current level cap, around 8pm or so, after taking a break for supper and things, so that was nice. Then I got her some new gear and fiddled with that for awhile before quitting the game for the night. The rest of the night was pretty lazy, with me just chatting with people on gchat and doing a little writing for rp and such. I listened to a lot of music, a lot of Kanye who I've really gotten into lately. It amuses me to no end as I never really thought of myself as a rap fan before, outside of being a Beastie Boys fan but that's not really the same thing at all. I owe it all to loving Camp by Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover from Community) and following his references to Watch the Throne, which I love omg, and then I explored onward from there. I also have Jay-Z's The Blueprint, which apparently Kanye produced too, hehe. But yes, lots of listening to music and just chilling I suppose. Watched a lot of hockey too while that was on, it was a nice, quiet night.

Today has been very laid back too. I turned down going into the city yesterday in favour of relaxing at home, as I knew if I went into town I'd likely a.) get drunk (there was a scotch tasting which I really wanted to do but yeah), and b.) spend a lot of money. Not to mention I wouldn't have left to come out here until late too. But yeah, today instead turned into relaxing some more, reading some more Hunger Games (started that yesterday too), and popped into the office to get my files for tomorrow. I have court in the morning and every single effing day this week, ugh, don't want to even think about it really. And got to watch hockey this afternoon, seeing the Bruins scrape out a shoot out victory against the Flyers this afternoon, the end of the Patriots/Ravens game, and am now watching the Giants/49ers game. Lots of sports! Oh, and the reason why this is flocked, I also sent off my resume to a firm in the city for an associate opening in there. I honestly don't think I'll even get a call back, because they're a pretty elite firm in my mind, and I'm just not that good I don't think (not beating myself up here, truth is truth; I applied for positions with them as a student and on graduating several times and nope), but I put it in there. The worst they can say is no, or nothing at all, right? We'll see how it goes anyway, if I get further along in the process it'll open up a whole plethora of questions but not going to go there just yet.

So yeah, in spite of all that, I keep telling myself that I wasted my weekend. I know I didn't, but I do this all the time. Which is crazy because I know several people in my life who've said similar things about themselves, like, oh I napped for 3-4 hours and feel like I wasted time, or didn't do anything this evening or weekend, what have you, and my reply is always "pfft that's what time off is for, taking care of yourself and just relaxing." Yet when it comes to me I don't tell myself the same thing. I need to have something concrete to point to, as in, hey, look, here's what I did this weekend and I can prove it. This weekend maybe I can point to my hunter I suppose but still. I wanted to write so much, I'm trying to do a few big bangs right now but I didn't really touch them at all. Thursday night I was telling myself that oh boy, if I get a snow day on Friday I have all weekend to write! And I didn't. Which is ok, I need to remind myself of that constantly, and yet. I hate beating myself up like that, so I'm not going to do it now, but the temptation is always there or something, I don't know.

Anyway, going to go and say good night to my wife and rest up for the start of a long, long week this week. Hope everyone had a nice weekend and that you have a good week ahead of you! :)

canadiandiamond: (Bourque & Neely)
So, a month or so ago one of the bailiffs at court told me about an upcoming appearance by Ray Bourque at our local arena. I figured it was just for the kids in minor hockey or something, but no no, he said it was a charity game kind of thing, but it might be sold out by now. I concurred and never thought much of it after that, especially since I think he mentioned it to me on a busy court day so I forgot all about it.

Anyway, this morning one of the girls in the office, who's big into the Cee Bees (our local men's senior hockey league team) and hockey in general, asked me if I was going Sunday. I told her that I'd forgotten about it and that when I heard about it ages ago I figured it was sold out. But no, it's not! She gave me the number to the rink, which she knows off hand, and I called and lo and behold, tickets are available. I booked one for myself, then after thinking about it and checking with Mom I changed that to two, one for Dad as well, so it'll be an activity for us both. :)

I picked up the tickets over lunch, for another girl in the office too who'll be sitting next to us, and also asked if there was any set time for photo ops or autographs, etc. She said there wasn't but for $25 more per ticket you could get a VIP pass to the locker room, omg. So that's exactly what I did, hahaha. XD The Legends team has so many players on it - no Neely, but Bourque, Rick Middleton, Terry O'Reilly, and many others, it's kind of insane (fyi, that's Bourque and Neely in my icon above!).

So yeah, wow. I'll get to meet some of the legends of Bruins hockey. x.x And Bourque, oh, I am so looking forward to that. Him winning the Cup with Colorado (he asked for a trade in the twilight of his career because Boston was suuuuucking and he wanted to win one and, while I was sad to see him go, so glad he did in retrospect!) just before he retired was my most memorable hockey moment until the B's won it themselves last June, and honestly it's still a veeeeeery close second. Like, seriously, I know not a lot (if any) of you can relate to growing up as a young Canadian boy playing hockey and pretending what player you were, well, for me it was Bourque. So to be able to get to meet him, well. Heeeeeeee. :D :D :D

There will be pictures, and there will be autographs, and, if I can find it (it may be packed up and in Salmon Cove), there may be opening of the sealed Bourque rookie card so I can get it signed. We will see!

Not a bad weekend, though it seemed to go by way too fast for my liking.

Friday night I ended up staying home alone, hitting the mall for the requisite snacks and then raiding online for 3-4 hours or so. It went well enough, I suppose, after straightening out some loot rules and explaining them to people. I'm... not in charge of it, since all of the officers agreed on the rules and all, I just manage the list and whatnot, and have had a few complaints / questions but I think it's working out well enough. Taking longer than I thought to handle it while we're mid-raid but that's because we've had a bunch of new people to add to the list and such. At any rate, we did ok, only did one boss before calling it a night but it was alright by me as I was tired from a long week of work.

Saturday was very relaxed. I got up at noonish to watch the Bruins' victory parade through Boston, which was very awesome, not only because it was my team celebrating the Cup win omg (still can't believe it happened sometimes XDDDDD), but because it took me through some streets I was half-familiar with, I guess, hehe. Haven't been there in a little over a year but still, love that city so much, for many, many reasons. Then my buddy Brad showed me a link to a live feed of the EVE Online Alliance Tournament IX, which we watched together all afternoon and into the evening. Such a fun production, omg. They have their own "tv" show, a live webcast, run buy the devs. The company that makes and runs EVE Online, CCP, are so amazing, just, wow. They're great people, they do so much in the community, like running this show and the tourney, and are just awesome people who also play the game. And the tourney itself was very entertaining, even though I'm such a n00b in the game it's not even funny. The commentating and trash talking was great, though, and I had a blast watching it.

Sunday was more of the same; the tourney, you see, started a few weekends ago, and this was the last weekend for it, with the round robin ending yesterday and the final brackets going head to head today. Lots of upsets and awesome fighting, some great entertainment there, and I ended up playing some more EVE with Brad while watching the tourney too. He plays it a ton and I have a short sub for now too, so I'll be playing with him when I can. It's very fun but oh so very different from any other MMO I've every played, to say the least, haha. I like it though! It's something that, playing the way I do anyway (mining/manufacturing moreso than combat), you can put on a movie/tv show or listen to music while you play. I love deeding in LOTRO or harvesting mats while doing the same thing, so it kinda makes sense, I think. At any rate, I've a lifetime LOTRO account and will never leave there, and am still going to be playing that too and raiding a lot on weekends, but this just gives me some more options and all. :)

Other than that, not much else to report. Only went out for food on Saturday and today, really, and to get a Father's Day card for Dad yesterday - got a birthday one for him while I was in the States last so Sara could sign it (his bday's tomorrow, fyi!), but didn't have a Father's Day one. Got him that and a $20 scratch ticket, on which he won $50, haha, and a $50 Canadian Tire gift card for his birthday.

One other thing that's crossed my mind lately has been possibly applying for another character in XP. It's been a blast so far, and I've really been liking it, especially lately with my character being in a bunch of plots. I have one in mind, too, but I dunno, will think about it and see I suppose. No big rush, really, but I'll think about it. :)

On that note, though, it's after midnight so I should hop in bed and rest up. Not sure what's going on tomorrow; I have court in two places at once, heh, but one may (hopefully) go away. If not I can get someone to cover one (it's just getting a decision), but hoping I won't need to do that. I have time to deal with it in the morning anyway, just need to make sure I have enough rest to deal with it. There's also a ton of work!drama at the moment, none of which I want to get into here, heh, but will maybe reflect on later this week, depending on what happens.

Hope everyone else had a nice weekend and that you have a nice start to the week tomorrow too! :)
The Boston Bruins are the 2010-2011 Stanley Cup Champions!

So very, very happy, that does not even begin to explain how I feel, omg. Those are my boys right there on tv, hoisting the Cup, celebrating, wow. Tim Thomas is the man, no if, ands, or buts about it, omg. And Michael Ryder will be bringing the Cup back to Bonavista, NL, and I will be making a road trip to see him when he does! :D

Now off to bed as I have court in the morning but omfg how am I gonna sleep?

...

:D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a bad weekend, really, and it's not quite over yet but planning to work and such tomorrow. More on that later.

Last night I got to watch a heartbreaking loss in Game 5 by my Bruins, mreh. Such a weird Stanley Cup Finals, it's very odd. Games 1, 2, & 5 in Vancouver? 1 goal wins, all by Vancouver, but could've went either way. Games 3 & 4 in Boston? Epic blowout wins by Boston by 8-1 and 4-0 scores. Game 6 is Monday night in Boston, so we'll see what happens. A Vancouver win gets them the Cup; a Boston win gets them one more kick at the can in Vancouver. Obviously I'm hoping for the latter. XD

Then we raided last night, using a new loot rule system, managed by yours truly. That was a bit frustrating at first, since we literally got our first boss down and had to use it for the first time just as the Canucks scored. Was hard for me to pay attention and stay calm. XD It works well though, I think, and I'm glad we finally got it instituted. We got 2 bosses down, one in challenge mode (which equals more/better loot), so that was good, then a somewhat decent bedtime for me.

This morning I got up at a little after 10am, which is great for me on a Saturday, hehe. Showered, had breakfast, then drove to St. John's, where I hit the mall and stayed there for 8+ hours, haha. I picked up tickets to see 3 movies: a 12:20pm showing of Super 8, a 3:10pm showing of X-Men: First Class, and a 6:00pm showing of The Hangover 2. In between I picked up some other things: a copy of Transformers 2 on DVD for cheap (saw the first one but not this one, and hear it's GODAWFUL, but in case I want to see 3 in July I figure what odds?), Elvis Costello's Secret, Profane & Sugarcane album and Season 2 of Spectacle, and after the mall made a quick trip to Chapters for a book on learning music theory (wanna learn to read sheet music) and on writing.

Movie reviews/summaries behind the cut for potential spoilers, though I don't really go into much detail just the same, but to be safe. :)

Movie talk! )

Came home from town and raided, which, mreh as well. Just been frustrating lately, and tonight was the same as the last several weeks, with us banging our head against the wall for hours at a time on this one fight. A few weeks' back the banging was mainly over clearing the trash to get to him, but we have that down pretty well now. Now it's the actual boss fight itself, which is just frustrating, and we keep trying for the challenge mode that's just preposterously easy to blow (we lose it less than 30s into the fight every damn time and it's a long fight to win, if we ever do win it) and resetting when we fail. It takes the wind out of your sails to spend hours at that, especially when you die a lot while doing so, ugh. So yeah, just a frustrating night, kinda sucks to end off the night like that but it is what it is.

Tomorrow I have plans to get some work done because I'm way behind on a lot of routine things, mainly because my assistant, Nancy, was out of the office most of the week. The sad news, though, is that she was out of the office because her mother, who'd been ill for awhile, was in palliative care and took a turn for the worse on Wednesday, and then died on Friday. :/ The funeral will be Monday afternoon, so I may be able to make it - have court Monday morning so it'll depend on how long that lasts, but would like to be there - but at any rate will be going to the funeral home tomorrow afternoon to pay my respects.

For now though it's off to bed, after a good day of movies and shopping followed by a long night of frustrating raiding. Think I'll try to read a bit first and end off the day that way instead. :)

hockey musings

May. 4th, 2011 12:17 pm
canadiandiamond: (Bourque & Neely)
Game Three of the Boston/Philly series is tonight. Boston is up 2-0 but with them being down to Montreal by the same count in Round One and coming back to win in seven, coupled with Philly's unbelievable come back from down 3-0 against Boston in last year's Eastern Conference Semifinal, I am not counting my chickens just yet. XD

Game One was awesome, I'm so glad I got to experience a play-off game in person, with my favourite team playing, and winning nonetheless, even if I couldn't jump to my feet and cheer with each goal. Well, I could have, but it was a long walk back to my car. XD I missed Game Two because of my flights back to NL, but was kept updated via my cell phone and Twitter, which was probably better than watching OT hockey and taking years off of my life, heh. Looking forward to tonight, should be a good one for sure.

Even though I'm obviously rooting for my Bruins, I really do like the Flyers too. I always have, kinda; they're very similar teams, or used to be anyway. The big bad Bruins always had that lunch box work effort, the hard working mentality, never say die, forecheck and backcheck hard, etc. And then there's the fighting and such. XD Granted, the modern day Bruins have been much less like that lately, with a few exceptions like Neely and I guess Chara/Thornton today. The last time they were really big and bad was in the early 70's, and somewhat ironically that's when Philly became the same way, winning their two Stanley Cups in the mid 70's back-to-back.

They're both very similar in my mind, or have been in various times of their pasts, and even with last year's miraculous come back, I still don't hate the Flyers, if anything I respect them more for that (the fact that they then kicked Montreal's ass after unseating the Bruins helped XD). They might even be my 2nd favourite team in the league, I know I used to play as them sometimes in the old NHL computer games, hehe.

So it's weird watching them battle it out, kinda. I mean, yeah, they have very different teams right now, and it's not as rough and tumble as it used to be back in the day, but thinking of them as so similar it's still a little odd to me. One thing's for sure, though, it makes for good hockey, and great playoff hockey, which is a good thing. :)

It's been awhile, I know, but I've been busy! First off, I've not forgotten the meme from last week, I've just not been around long enough to do it. Soon though!

Been an awesome trp so far. Flights down were miraculously all on time and smooth, and no luggage snafu this time, phew. Got to [livejournal.com profile] believeitup's apartment just before midnight, maybe a quarter of, which may not sound like it's a big deal at first blush, but I flew down on Saturday, April 23rd, aka my birthday, and for the first time ever I got to hear Happy Birthday in person from my wife. <3 Which, again probably a small detail for some, but it meant the world to me and was the best birthday present ever. It's the little things. :)

Sunday we were up early to drive to Lahaska to meet [livejournal.com profile] onlyonechoice and her family for Easter Brunch at Peddler's Village, my second time joining them there, and it was just as awesome and delicious as last year. Took a bunch of pics... on my BlackBerry, after yours truly left his camera at the apartment, having taken it out to charge the night before and everything. >.< Will upload those later, as it costs way too much to transfer data down here on an international roaming basis, but have lots of cute ones, including a new wallpaper one of me and the missus, and got a new Facebook profile picture from some of T's pics. The rest of the day saw us wandering through the Village, having a nice ride home (was so nice all day, omg, and we have a new Dodge Charger this time :D!) then home for naps and relaxing.

Monday was back to work for my baby sadly, and I got right back into the routine of bringing lunch to her, I love doing that. We had an earlyish night even though she wasn't in until lunch time Tuesday, as I had a phone appearance to make the next morning, so we hit the hay early and read for a bit, with me playing some Super Scribblenauts I got as a birthday gift from T and Sara. :D I also got both seasons of Breaking Bad from them on Blu-Ray, which is awesome, and Volume 4 of the Glee soundtracks.

Tuesday was the court appearance by phone that went exactly as I told the other lawyer how it would go, rararar. Waste of time, though worse for them - aside from nothing happening that they wanted, the judge reminded them they should be paying child support and ordered that too, heh, so there. Then Sara and I fled the hit apartment omg - it's the humidity that's making it unbearable, but fingers crossed that finally broke yesterday. We hit up a fresh market near her workplace, which had AC, as does the Charger, hehe. Then we had another low key night, cuddling up to watch the first episode of Game of Thrones and many episodes of The Republic of Doyle, which was awesome.

Wednesday was such a fantastic day, omg. It was Sara's day off and we made a day of it, heading to the King of Prussia mall for the day. Lots of both window shopping and actual purchasing, and was just nice to spend the day with my better half, especially in air conditioned cars/malls. We got in some more tv show watching that night, consuming more Republic of Doyle since I couldn't get the second episode of Game of Thrones on iTunes or anything, grr. Such a great day though, a full happy day with my wife. To cap it off, Boston beat Montreal in overtime of Game 7 to move on to the second round of the NHL playoffs! :D

Thursday it finally cooled off, and after work Sara and I got to drive around a little. We were joined by T for an amaaaaazing BBQ supper at Famous Dave's, mmmm. I just about ate it all this time, so much food omg, and so so yummeh! Then Sara and I watched the second episode of Game of Thrones after I figured out how to get my hands onto it, followed by even more Republic of Doyle. At this rate we should get to finish the first season before I go back, which I so do not want to think about. >.>

Tonight while T is gone for the evening my beautiful wife and I will be going out to supper at Outback Steakhouse, never been there so really looking forward to it. :D Then some raiding together tonight for a change, which should be fun too. :D I've had a productive day on a number of fronts, which rocks, am really enjoying it and still have supper and such to look forward to as well!

I also found reasonably priced tickets for tomorrow's Game One between Boston and Philly, which is here omg, and I'll be dropping Sara off at work and heading straight for the arena. :D It'll be well over before she gets off work so it doesn't even interfere with anything, so awesome, and omg I will get to see my first NHL playoff game, even if it's in the wrong arena. XD Will totally be going undercover so as not to get beaten up. XD

That's it for now, off to get my wife. I love her so much and am having such an amazing trip, she's so great to put up with me being (imho) clingy and such, hee. I just don't get that many hugs and such when we're apart, I guess, so I'm always holding her hand or touching her hair or her shoulder, the small of her back as we enter a room, that kind of thing. Loving this time together as always, I'm such a lucky guy. :)

Alright, speaking of which, time to stop rambling and go hop in mah Charger and get her. Hope everyone's doing well and will write again soon! :)

a quiet night

Just a quick reflective post. It was a long day at work, with a tough trial taking me out of the office effectively all day when it was only scheduled for half of one (not to mention an unfavourable outcome that means I've a sentencing in the morning), but once I got home the day got considerably better.

Not that I did a lot, really, or anything of great import; I mainly chatted with a friend online, then played some LOTRO, then met my wife online on another server, where we chatted while she raided and I watched the two part s2 finale of Doctor Who (which made me incredibly sad :/), followed by some more LOTRO where I won a symbol (used to make good gear) and found an awesome cosmetic for one of my toons that makes me more incredibly happy than I should be over some mere pixels. And now I'm laying in bed, typing this on my iPad while watching a very late night Bruins/Kings game from L.A. before going to sleep.

It's just been a nice, quiet evening, for a Monday no less, so I figured I'd write about that for a change instead of my usual infrequent highs and/or lows. :) Tomorrow brings more court in the morning, a full day of interviews, and a new MMO beta to try, so off to sleep now in preparation of that. Hope everyone else had a nice day too!

Also, new icon, as I've been watching a fair bit of SCTV lately due to channel change ups! :D

Tonight we picked our hockey teams for this year's regular season hockey pool, which took almost three hours but was nice and went pretty well. I have to appear by phone every year since the draft is for the Marystown pool, but it's still fun and I know most of the people in the pool. It's great because it gives us something else to keep in touch about and, well, hockey is awesome. :D

We pick 11 forwards, 5 defensemen, and 2 goalies, with the best 9/4/1 of each counting towards your point total. Each goal and assist is one point, and for goalies each win is a point and each shutout is 3 points (so yes, a shutout win is 4 points). And in case you're interested, here's my team:

Draft picks here! )

Also so exhausted, it's been a long day and I was up way too late last night due to game commitments. Which unfortunately didn't really produce any good results, except for reminding me why I shouldn't and don't do that kind of thing any more. So now I'm watching Community on the recommendation of a good friend, and am watching episode 4 of the first season and liking it a lot. I'm tempted to watch even more but I'm also exhausted and need to get to bed early, so after this one's over it's off to bed for me. Perhaps there'll be a little reading but that's about it, we'll see. Yes, I'm very exciting, aren't I? :D?

So very tired, don't know why I haven't collapsed into bed yet, but will be very shortly. Just thought I'd make a quick post while I was thinking about things, 'cause tomorrow I'll either forget or get caught up in other things (may go to work for a bit, have a huuuuge trial starting on Friday that's got me worried), so yeah.

Just been wondering lately about things, everything and nothing, it's hard to put a finger on it but I've just been on a downswing a lot lately. And... I have no real idea what a mid-life crisis is, haha, or when it would sink in (I don't think I'm half-way through life at 33, I hope not anyway x.x), and it's nothing that I haven't really felt before, I guess, just longer and in more depth, I suppose, would be the words? I dunno. I've just been down in a hole lately and there's been some reasons I can point to for it; work has been such a bitch lately, and while I have this weekend off to catch my breath - even though I could be working tomorrow to prevent future calamities / catch up - it'll get like that again this week, not to mention my stupid, stupid favourite team breaking my heart once again, bickering with my sister a bit (though that's fixed up now and was never really that bad anyway), etc. There's other things too that I can't really quantify, even though I've tried to, and I dunno. I may check some things out online but I know just how bad of an idea that can be too, trying to diagnose / gather info on one's self from the internet. XD

At any rate, yeah, if I haven't been around or posting much that's partly why. I have been trying to do the song meme each day or thereabouts to catch up on posting in general instead of just autotweeting every day, and for the most part I've done that, though I usually don't have much more to say than that. I'll try to get better, though, maybe typing things out in here will help, and that'd be a good thing. Which is why I'm making this post, if that makes sense.

Annnnnnnd when I start asking if things make sense then it's time to sleep, also because it's after 4:30am and while I don't have anywhere to be tomorrow, strictly speaking, it's getting light out and that makes it much harder to sleep, so. Good night. :)

First off, a meme stolen from my beautiful bride, [livejournal.com profile] believeitup:

Song a Day Meme: Day 1 )

It was such a busy week at work, holy crap. I had a fair bit of court in the city, all day on Wednesday and the majority of the day yesterday. Thursday was jam packed with appointments, all kinds of them and different types of law, so I didn't know whether I was coming or going, ugh, and I was very very frustrated and depressed at the end of the day. On top of it all, the stupid broker / company we're dealing with re: the financing for the house are idiots and we ended up extending the closing date on the house to next Wednesday to accommodate their last-minute demands for more financial disclosure. So, so frustrating, and we may end up having to postpone it again. Thankfully the vendors are patient and not buying another home that's pending on this sale or anything, or else we'd be in trouble, but yeah, so much stress this past week. So glad the weekend's here.

It's been a nice weekend so far; last night I didn't do much, which was nice in and of itself. I hopped around on all my characters in LOTRO, checking mail and such, before settling in and leveling my Guardian for awhile. He's about 1/2 way to 63 now, I think, and I bounced around to cook and do other things before finally agreeing to do a pick-up group attempt at one of the newer raids in the game. Sara came with, which was nice, and it was a lol-tastic affair, so many, just... I don't even know. Some people just make your head shake in amazement, and not in the good way, hah. We hung in there, though, and did the entire raid, and I even got a new piece of gear for my little Hobbit minstrel, which will be good towards the set bonus at least (the piece he has on is actually better). It was nice, but once it was done it was late late laaaaaate and I went to bed shortly after that.

Today I've been lazing about, and have the Bruins/Flyers game on. Boston's up 2-0 after the first, an amazing start despite Marco Sturm being injured on his first shift and gone for the day. At least Savard's finally back. XD Philly will wake up in time, they're much better than this, but should be a great, physical series. Here's hoping Rask can outplay Boucher in net, though. :)

Alright, the second period's about to start, so time to stop typing and to focus on the game again. Hope everyone has a great weekend! :D

It's been a nice weekend so far, pretty laid back. There's been a fair bit of LOTRO; Friday night we raided but did an old school one that we've not done in ages. It was fun and a nice change of pace, and we had Saturday slated for an all-day attempt at the newest raid, so it made sense to mix things up and do something easier instead. Plus, one bonus to doing the older content was completing it gives you a token that can be used to give your raid a benefit for 3 hours that actually helped us with the new content, so win-win. After LOTRO I headed for bed and read a little more D&D stuff before passing out.

Saturday was more of the same, pretty much. I got up, watched the Boston/Buffalo game, and eventually got in game for the raid. We had everyone who wanted to play sign up with their times of availability, since this we knew it was going to take a LOT of chance to even have a shot of winning, and we wanted to take as many kicks at the can as possible to at least learn more about the raid / formulate some strategies and whatnot.

Cut for in-depth LOTRO-y stuff! :) )

Anyway! Sorry about that detailed explanation for those of you not into LOTRO, oops. XD Actually, I think I'll add a cut. *does so!* Suffice it to say it was a long day but a positive one, and we're going to try it again much later tonight, though I've work in the morning so I'll only be able to commit a few hours to the cause.

For today I'm hoping to get a little console time in before the hockey starts up again. I've got way too many games that I haven't played at all or much, and that's a shame. I even picked up Final Fantasy XIII while in the US, and I am kinda wanting to delve into that, but I know if I will then that'll be all I do for awhile, haha, so holding off on that for the moment until I know I can devote a huge chunk of time to it, maybe next weekend, we'll see. I can play more Dragon Age: Origins, the gift [livejournal.com profile] believeitup gave me last Christmas, or Fallout 3, which she gave me the Christmas before. >.> Or any number of games I could list off to you here, there's a stack by the console itself that I can see if I just turn my head to the left, before even looking to the shelf behind me, oops. >.> So, yes, gonna go do that, maybe read more of the Player's Handbook too, we'll see, the day is still young!

Hope everyone had a good weekend and that you have a nice Sunday too! :)
