I've been playing guitar since my first year of university. I tried to play way back in Grade 3 but I remember it was hard on the fingers and I just never stuck with it. I'm glad I picked it up and stayed with it, though, it's been one of the few constants in my life over the years that entertains me, calms me down, excites me, a whole bunch of things. :)

Perhaps what I like about it the most is the way it lets me interact with music, one of my favourite things in the world, in many ways. Either here at home I can just strum and pick along with songs playing on the iPod or computer, or I can be playing with others at a house party and playing and singing along with everyone else. Not to mention the many different talents shows and such I helped out with in both my Burke House days and in law school. I have a recording of one of the Burke ones, not my best performance though. Would kill for a recording of the year we did weezer's Say It Ain't So and Cake's version of I Will Survive. I am dying to know if I nailed that pinch harmonic in the solo to the former (so hard to tell on stage, we didn't have the best sound set up you see XD) and I remember sitting down and tabbing out the solo myself for the latter. Good times!

It's a good feeling, contributing to that sort of thing, and I can't sing for shit so at least I can contribute that way. :D Which begs the question, do I take the guitar with me tonight? Hmmm. Hallowe'en is always tricky, with the costumes and whatnot, but maybe I will.

I have my good ol' acoustic guitar (Betty), my electric (Veronica), my bass (no real name, should play it more!), and also a banjo which I can't really play yet. I mean, yeah, I can fake my way around it, but I need to sit down some day and relearn the chord fingerings, get some thumb and finger picks for it, and learn the right hand technique. That's on the to-do list for today when I hit the city, to hit up a music store and get those picks. Maybe some new strings too but, uh, changing the strings on that thing looks intimidating, man. x.x Might just bring it in to someone to do it, heh, and since I haven't been playing it much it's not in dire need of new strings just yet anyway.

happy friday!

So, what a week this has been. So much drama, with work, real life, LOTRO, everything. I won't delve into too much detail, but some of it has been resolved, thankfully. I even managed to (hopefully) settle one of my most contentious files today, which was awesome. I qualify that with hopefully since an offer was made to us, and we have court on Monday to set a trial date if we don't agree, but after talking with my client after the meeting it looks like we'll be taking the offer. It was a stressful and annoying afternoon in meetings but it may have been well worth it.

Not much else to report, really. This week was easier with my court schedule, and next week should be along the same lines, thankfully. Monday is actually a civic holiday, but since I have court in another town and in the city on Monday I won't be getting the holiday. Well. Not the full one, anyway; I'm thinking about sticking around the city after my 12 noon court appearance and catching a matinee of Funny People that afternoon if I can. We'll see though, not gonna worry about that now. Looking forward to getting a lot of sleep and some gaming in this weekend, as it's an Aion beta weekend and there's always things on the go with LOTRO. Though... without getting into specifics here, there's a lot of kin drama lately that I don't know what's on the go with, to tell the truth. I'm hoping to talk to [livejournal.com profile] believeitup about it a bit over the weekend, as well as a few others if I can, but I really don't know people that well in the kin yet to talk about these things. We'll see, I think things can be ok in time, but for now suffice it to say that a lot of backs are raised and things are still a little ugly, heh. I've seen it happen in so many other games before; end game content brings out the worst in people.

I got to play guitar tonight for a bit, which was nice, and by guitar I mean I broke out my Strat and cranked it up for awhile. I was never that good to begin with, but I was preeeetty rusty tonight especially, heh. Thankfully I mainly played things with lots of power chords and didn't embarrass myself too much. I get self conscious since with the AC unit in my window things that loud can be heard on the street below, and while we don't get a lot of traffic, there is a little. There was no booing (that I heard) or rocks thrown, so that's a good thing. :D

That's about it for now. Time keeps on a-rollin', and soon I'll be visiting my darling wife in PA once again, I can't wait. And things are still developing in the employment field, which is a good thing. I've just been feeling lately that... I dunno, that I've been spinning my wheels in general, and a fresh start to a new life is exactly what I need. Here's hoping the chips all fall into place and things can start shaping up in the very near future. :)

So I just ordered Walk The Line (2 disc widescreen collector's edition), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (also 2 disc widescreen collector's edition) and a copy of Herodotus' Histories (hey, why not?) from Amazon.ca. I did a bit of a double take after submitting my order and it said I was all done. I must've asked it to save my credit card info by mistake the last time, because I don't do that. Ack! I can take it off, but that was a bit offputting to know they still had it from our last transaction. It'll all ship together on Tuesday, when HP is available. They can ship separately as available but if you choose that option you don't get the free super saving shipping option that comes with purchases over $39. All I really wanted was Walk The Line, but I was going to get HP anyway, and shucks, why not toss in a book too? Oh online shopping, you are so bad for me. Yet so good!

I didn't get up until, like, after 4pm today, yikes. I was up pretty late, which is the norm for the weekends, but a few hours after I woke up and was sick. Boo to that. I think I'm ok now, though I've got a bit of a headache. And of course with all this extra rest, I bet by the time the Oscars come on I'll be all "WOO! OSCARS!" and stay up super late to see it all. Even though I haven't seen like 95% of the movies this year. :/ And that'll mean tomorrow will suck at work 'cause I'll be so tired. What's that? Pessimistic, me? Never! :D;

I also bought a couple of magazines yesterday too, just for the CDs / DVDs that came with them. The new PC Gamer has a DVD full of demos that looks awesome, since a few of the games on it I've been tempted to buy. Especially this Star Wars one that looks cool. :D And the new Guitar World has a CD in it that shows you how to play Crazy Train, and the tab's in the book. I have other books with the tab, but I want to see what the video's like. I can play most of the song, but the last part of the solo is so. Freaking. Hard. I'd give anything to learn how to play it right, and I hope this will do the trick. But yes, I should actually use these things now that I've paid for them, rather than pile them in the corner and forget about them. >.>

Well, tonight was pretty laid back and enjoyable. I actually worked in some time to rock out. :D Plugged in the electric for the first time in awhile and played along with the entire new Green Day album, and not one but three weezer albums (the green album, Make Believe and Maladroit, in that order). Good times. :)

Other than that, I watched a few episodes of Angel, which I haven't done in awhile. I finished off disc 2 of Season 5, 4 more to go, then there's no more new Whedon-y goodness to enjoy. :/ I should re-watch Firefly then though, in anticipation of the movie and all. We'll see... oh yeah, in exchange for providing all 22 eps of Veronica Mars, I got 22 eps of Lost. Time for me to dig into that and see what all the fuss is about. More than enough to keep me busy this weekend, for sure.

Anyway, off to bed. Might have to pop into the office tomorrow to get some stuff signed, other than that there are no plans. Let's hope if the people call, it's not until after lunch as I asked, since I likely won't be up until then. >.>;

[eta] oh yes, I almost forgot... the last song on the new weezer album, Haunt You Every Day, has the exact same chord progression as I Will Survive, I do believe. It's tuned down a half step, and played at a different pace and whatnot, but still!

Ok, take 2, as LJ ate my first post. >:o

Um... today was fun, got to see a movie (Hostage, which was ok) and had supper with some friends. It was my friend's birthday and we had fun, then went to play pool and had some ice cream. :D

Tomorrow I'm going to get out to Futureshop I hope, and then to the guitar store where I have to drop off my guitar to get my guitar fixed. I tried to repair it myself but I think I was doing more damage in trying to fix it than actually repairing it. >.>; Then it's back to my parents place for tomorrow and Sunday, before driving back to my aunt's place on Sunday.

I'm hoping to check out the iPods at the store tomorrow, I'm really thinking about getting one. I'm telling myself that I'll do more walking if I get one. The thing that's getting me is the price / size and all. I'd have no problems paying for the mini with 4GB, but I don't know if that's enough space. And the new minis with 6GB would be great, but they're just $50 less than the 20GB models, so it'd be just as well to go that way. Hrm. If any one has any advice / suggestions, I'd appreciate it. :)

Anyway, off to do stuff. Maybe rp. We'll see, if a certain someone still wants to! *pops back onto AIM to confirm / deny this*

Today was an ok day. Been hyped up about rp-ing a lot lately, which can only lead to being all "meh" later on once the things I plan don't pan out. :/ But oh well, I think I've actually done a good job with caring less about it than I used to. I don't mean totally ignoring my characters or anything, just not getting so worked up about it. Well, ok, except for one thing that might happen to one of them, but we'll see.

In other news, the stupid cd player in my car is broken. It still plays cds, but the volume control is messed up. When you push the buttons, it sometimes sticks (sometimes on its own without touching it!) and the volume will either soar way up or drop to nothing. Very annoying. I don't want to get a new one yet either, 'cause this one's not that old, and it was pretty cheap too. I got it at a midnight madness sale type thing and paid 1/2 price, and even then it was $75 + tax. I really don't have $200 or so to plunk down on a new one, let alone the know-how to install it. -.-;

*watches the weather on tv* ...it was 25 degrees celsius in L.A. today? Whoa, that's pretty much an above average summer day here. And we have a high snowfall warning in place for tomorrow, thus foiling my plans to go to the city for the weekend. Yay! >.>

Oh yeah, I broke my electric guitar too. Not just a string, but part of the nut at the top of the neck. Yeah, I busted a nut. Have fun with that one. >.>;; I was playing along to the solo of Jeremy and then all of a sudden the low E string was like two octaves too low. Then I notice part of the nut on that side was cracked off somehow. D'oh. Just after I got a new strap and a kick-ass set of strings, it breaks. Good timing! I hope to pick up a replacement for it this weekend, if I can. I can't imagine it's that expensive, and it's just a matter of loosening the strings and sliding it in there, I think. I hope so anyway. :/

Ok, enough whining. Work is going well, and regardless of whether I go to the city, I have Monday off, so score! Going to get a lot done if I stay here anyway, so that might be a blessing in disguise. I've also been meaning to get back to work on the whole NaNo thing that I started... I've put way too much time into that to simply abandon it. I think I should just read it alllllll over to get a feel for it again, it's been awhile and I forget where I was going at the end there. Such things happen when you write on the fly for 30 days straight, basically, heh. I really, really want to finish it, just to say I was able to complete the novel / novella, however long it turns out to be. Even if it sucks, which I think it does so far. XD;;

Anyway, I should go and try to do something productive before going to bed... maybe a narrarive or something. Yes, that should be do-able in the next hour or so.

Also! Some funny stuff from my sister, hehe. I was complaining about stuff on Survivor (which I won't say in case people don't wanna be spoiled) and I was saying who wants to watch it when this stuff happens, to which my sister replies:

"see i dont care who wins, i like to watch the insane things americans do for money"

And then later, talking about more Survivor:

me: hehe I'd love for him to go to someone. "The Tribe has spoken. *slaps them in the face*"
sis: and then yell "get the fuck out!"
me: hehehehe!
sis: or laugh and say "nah i'm just kiddin" and then kick them in the groin

So, Veronica Mars is one incredibly cool show. I've only seen the first three episodes so far, but I'm loving it. Very cool. Though I now realize that my tv watching is becoming more and more like my book reading, getting in the middle of many of them at once. I have finished one disc of Season 5 of Angel, one of Season 1 of Dark Angel, one of Season 1 of Tru Calling, and three episodes of Veronica Mars. I should really just watch one at a time, which now should be Tru Calling as it's from the net rental service and the quicker I view those and send them back, the more I get to see. Eh.

I finally got some new guitar strings for my electric yesterday and put them on. Today they were pretty much all stretched out and good for playing, so I rocked out for an hour or so. Woo! New strings = teh awesome. Though you can't really bend them too much... or maybe that's just me, heh. I'm just afraid of spending almost $20 on strings and then breaking them the very first time using them. That'd suck.

Tomorrow is Thursday, I can't wait for the weekend! Though I have court on Monday, which means I might have to work this weekend. D'oh. But it shouldn't be that bad, so I don't think I'll have to do that much in the way of preparation. It'll be nice to sleep in again, and there's a lot I'd like to get done too. Which reminds me, I should do up a 'to do' list for my rps. *does so*

Well, that's it then. Off to sleep for me!
