Real life continues to move at top speed, or so it seems lately. Last weekend was my cousin's wedding, in which I stood up for him, and the weekend before that was his bachelor party out in Terra Nova. The party was great, thanks to a rainy day turning decent just in time for 18 holes of golf, followed by a nice night of drinks and playing guitar until the wee small hours of the morning in a private chalet. Very good time indeed, and the wedding went well last weekend too.

I really enjoyed being a part of the wedding, and I've gotta say, the other guys who stood up for my cousin were really nice too. I knew some of them from back in the day, but there were a good many I hadn't met before the bachelor party and I'm glad to have gotten the chance to get to know them. Hopefully I'll see some of them around in the future, maybe golfing with Terry and some of them down the road, that'd be nice. There was talk of having another little get together before the end of the summer (many of them are teachers), this time with significant others invited too, for a BBQ and campfire / sing-a-long, which would be pretty awesome.

I've got another bachelor party and a wedding the next two weekends in a row, similarly involving another 18 holes of golf tomorrow. The last few years I've only gotten out, what, once or maybe twice tops each year, usually just for 9 holes, so this is a lot for me. I have a cheap set of clubs that's fitting for a hack such as myself, though if I keep going out as much as this (and if Terry and I do start playing more often) I may have to look into getting a better set. We'll see, it won't be this summer, but maybe next year. I do love the game; they say you only have to make one good shot each outing to make you want to come back and play again, and so far I've been able to meet that minimum criterion. I usually can drive ok (though I'm known to have a wicked hook a lot of the time >.>) and putting, while not a pro at all of course, I can do ok with, it's the irons that kill me. Getting from a decent tee shot onto the green in only a few shots is what destroys my game. Ideally I should hit a driving range more often (or at all) to work on things but it's kind of far away. I used to go all the time back when I was living in Marystown, which was about a 15-20 minute drive away; here the nearest one isn't too, too much further, maybe closer to 30 or just over, but I just can't be bothered. It helped that my buddy Marcus would come with me a lot of the time in Marystown but out here I don't have anyone, unless Terry and I start going.

We'll see how it goes anyway, I'm looking forward to it. After the first few holes in Terra Nova I started improving and by the back nine I was hooking/slicing things a lot less and hitting the irons more consistency. I even managed to par the 18th hole in Terra Nova, which is just a par 3 but you have to clear a large water hazard to get onto the green, which I did before 2 putting it for par. I was ecstatic though, haha.

Other than that, not a lot of news to report. Most of my free time for the last few weeks has been spent playing Final Fantasy XIII, which I'm loving so much. Sara's been watching me play and has been following the story too, and we're both having a lot of fun. I should finish it some time this weekend, maybe even tonight, but then there's a lot of post-main storyline stuff to work on which I think I will do. I've got the sequel, FFXIII-2, waiting in the wings, but I've put so much time and effort into the first game's party that I want to see it through if I can. We'll see how long it takes to do things, it should be fun though.

Oh, and Big Brother 14 has started, which I've also gotten Sara dragged into I think, muahaha. The drama started pretty early with it this year, which shouldn't really be too surprising I suppose, but I'm glad that guilty pleasure of mine is back on the air again three times a week too. A very busy time but a good time lately. :)

Ugh, I feel like I need a nap, but I need to pack up my stuff and head into the city. I never update here any more, what's up with that, self?

Today was long and busy at work, which was even harder to do since it's so beautiful outside. Tonight we have a pub crawl and I also plan to attend a friend's piano recital on Sunday night, then I have court on Monday morning in the city, so I'll be in there allllllllllll weekend. I'm actually planning on being online at my sister's tomorrow night so I won't be completely off the radar, just mostly.

I won a court case recently, which I forgot to mention here, but it was just a lowly small claims matter. I even had lunch with the judge after, which was nice. Then I came home and went golfing, which was pretty much the best time I've had on the course, even if it wasn't all that good objectively speaking. XD That was all on Wednesday too, which was the pinnacle of the week and the busiest day of them all.

But yes, more to come later once I get home, if I remember to come back here again that is.

In other news, the local golf course opens Saturday! This is a very good thing. I'll be home this weekend, but when I get back I can get back onto the driving range.

Oh yes, I'll be home this weekend at my parents' place, and I'll be in the city tomorrow (Thursday, today technically for me) for a discovery, after that I'll be either in the city / at my parents' place until Sunday. I should be online when I'm at the folks' place, since they have high speed and a few computers, but not as much as I am usually. Just a heads up for y'all.

So, today was an interesting day. Work went well, I even got a compliment from the Crown Prosecutor from my trial yesterday about how I did in court. That's always nice. :D And we had a mini firm meeting, with the boss taking us out for lunch. Then at 4 I left to hit the golf course one last time before it closes.

It gets dark around 7 or shortly thereafter, so a 4:30 tee time was cutting it close at best, and the fact that my playing partner didn't show until 5:15 didn't help. But we had fun, and after we the 4th hole, we looked back at the people coming up behind us, then back to the green to see a fox. Yes, a wild one, sitting there staring at us. Very crazy. He wasn't rabid or anything, as far as we know, it just wanted to snatch up our golf balls. Maybe it thought they were eggs or something? I don't know.

But anyway, he chased the players behind us and we played on. The 5th hole went well, which is actually the longest hole there and can be a complete bitch to play (I didn't lose a ball on it this time! :D), but at the end of the 6th hole, the fox was back. He caught up to us at the green again, and he stole Mark's ball after he chipped it onto the green. The fox retreated then, so Mark dropped another ball, shot it on the green, and lo and behold, the fox comes back and *yoink!*. XD While he played with the new ball, we went towards wherever he dropped the other one, then he started toward us. So we figured it's time to go, heh. Plus by this time, with our late start and the fox slowing us down, it was too dark to continue anyway. They refunded us 1/3 of our fees, since we only played 6 of 9 holes.

Also picked up Batman Begins on DVD, but there was no 2 disc special edition there. I haven't opened the one I have, and I have the receipt, so maybe I'll check around to see if I can get the 2 disc one. I don't know if it's worth the hassle or not though, anyone know?

Anyway, court again tomorrow, but only first appearances, so it's not too bad. But I still need to get up quasi-early for it, so off to bed it is. :)

It's been a long day, even if I did get 11 hours sleep last night, heh. It was an even longer week, and I was soooooooooo exhausted last night, so it was well worth it. I don't think I'll get much more than 8-9 hours tonight, but that's ok.

Managed to get to the driving range today, which was nice. I still suck though, it was kinda aggravating today. I can't hit those damn irons at all. Though I did slow the swing down a lot today and when I did, I usually hit it straight. When I try to swing at a "normal" or faster speed, it goes waaaaaaay left, I have no idea why. Most golfers have a slice, which is going to the right. Mine's a very confusing problem, heh.

After that I picked up some movies, Kung Fu Hustle and Crash. I watched the former and I'll see the latter tomorrow afternoon. Other than that, I just chatted to a ton of people and made some icons, etc., in what has been a long and productive night. Also hooked [livejournal.com profile] everyoung up with some more music, which is cool. Gotta share the music love! :D

I thought I had more to say, but I really can't think of anything now. Well, maybe the fact that hockey is starting in a few days has got me very excited. :D And we pick our hockey pool on Tuesday, that's so awesome. And oh yeah! Veronica Mars season one out on DVD Tuesday, I believe. If not this one, then the next. So good.

But yes, I should be in bed I suppose. So off I go.

[eta] No Veronica Mars DVDs until the 11th. Boo-urns.

Fitting line because a.) I'm seeing Pearl Jam tonight, and b.) 'cause of my financial situation. -.-; But anyway, thanks to several people (you know who you are! ♥), a round of golf and the good possibility of selling off my extra ticket, tihngs are looking up. Yay!

Today's round of golf was actually worse than my first, overall, but I had more nice shots, if that makes sense. On the last hole I had my best drive ever, which was awesome. As long as you hit at least one nice shot, it's enough to bring you back for more, or so they say.

Anyway, off to the city for now. Here's hoping the rest of the day goes well, and likewise for all of you. :)

Man, this song is long. 17:10 to be exact, the version I have anyway. x.x

Anyway. Today was ok, though when I got home I was kinda in a bad mood again. I think things averaged out for me now though. Work was good, though only 2/7 people didn't show up. Sheesh, it's a holiday people! I certainly wouldn't have been there if I hadn't already used today's vacation time a few weeks' ago. Oh well, managed to get a lot done since we were still effectively closed. The Targa racing course passed through our town today, so the roads were shut down while race cars, well, raced through them. So no clients coming in, and very few phone calls, it was awesome. Negotiated a plea bargain, so no big 2 day trial for me next week, yay! And exchanged a few letters too, good times.

Then tonight we had a surprise birthday party for the boss. It was fun, tons of people there. I got to talk golf with some of the guys there, they're playing in this weekend's club tournament. You have to be a member to play and, well, it helps to be good too. XD I wanna hit the driving range sometime though, as it's getting late in the year and time's running out. I really would like to play an actual round again too, if possible. We'll see.

When I came home, I was all happy and in a good mood, but it turns out that a.) the FFVII:AC video I downloaded wasn't subtitled (ok, it was, but the subtitles were in Japanese :/) b.) the software I used to record Survivor taped over an hour of the bloody tv guide channel somehow, and c.) an e-mail I had been waiting for from [livejournal.com profile] happy_melody must've been trashed recently or overlooked by me somehow. Grrr. I get so few e-mails that I hate to lose the real ones. -.-;

Anyway, I'm feeling better now, and it's late, so I should head to bed. Tomorrow's Friday, thank heavens. Not that I have anything fun and exciting planned for the weekend, but the rest will be nice. May even try to hit the driving range tomorrow right after work, if I can remember to.

Finally, here's a song for you that sums up my current mood pretty well. It's Jimmy Eat World - Clarity, though I think the filename's just Clarity.wma or something. Such an awesome song though.

Annnnnnnnnnd here are the lyrics. )

[eta] [livejournal.com profile] everyoung and I have a contingency plan. Go us! :D

Today was a good day, the rain finally let up after lunch and it was nice out. Didn't really rain that much this morning, most of it was yesterday I suppose. But either way, I got to go out and hit the driving range for the first time in over a week, so yay! :D I may go back tomorrow, I was pleased with my work on the irons today, it'd be good to try again right away.

So glad that this is a long weekend. Also glad that it's a long weekend with a Monday off instead of a Friday. There's no big difference really, timewise, maybe it's just a psychological thing about having Monday off. It makes the week seem shorter than if it was Friday off or something. Could be because Fridays are usually good anyway, and because they're Casual Day. Can't beat wearing jeans at work!

So tired though. Might try to read a little bit and drift off to sleep. Nothing at all planned for tomorrow, and I'm glad to have it that way. :D

Well, the weekend has come and gone. Boo to that. It was ok, though I did nothing spectacular. Hit the driving range yesterday afternoon, that was about it. I did get my TV tuner card in the mail on Friday, and installed that. It's cool, though the reception here is crappy in my room so anything I record will be crappy too. Whenever I get out on my own though it'll be much better, as it stands the signal to my room is already split once or twice I think, so splitting it again to go from my 13" tv and to my monitor too makes it even worse. Oh well!

I was supposed to get a call after work on Friday to go out somewhere, but surprise surprise, it never came. Some people suck. Funny thing is, the same person said they'd call me the last time they were out here, which was almost 2 years ago, when I first got here. Didn't know anyone here then, still don't know anyone here now. I had fun doing nothing anyway, and I actually rediscovered Tiger Woods 2K4 which I bought last year. 2K6 comes out next month or so, but this version's still cool and I never played it much at all. Still lots left to do, and it's addictive, much like golf is in real life, hehe.

Off to bed now, back to work tomorrow. :/

Well, today was certainly busy for me. After court this morning, I talked with the other lawyers and they decided to go golfing this afternoon. In order to make the tee time, I worked through lunch and left an hour early. It was my first time playing an actual round, instead of just visiting the driving range. It went well, though it's haaaaard. I lost four balls too, but I found three, and lost two of those. So my next loss was three balls, hehe. I lost all of the new ones I brought with me, two of them after just one shot, back to back. First new ball, off the tee and into the woods. Second new one shot right after that, and into the woods on the other side, lost. Grrrr. Oh well, it was fun though. :)

Then after that, I got invited to tag along with a group to see Dukes of Hazzard. It was cheap night, so $4 admission + the fact that no one ever asks me to do stuff = me going to see a movie I'd normally never think about seeing otherwise. And yes, it sucked, big time. But oh well, it was nice to be social for a change. A very social day, as a lot of golf was just sitting around waiting for other people to move ahead and chatting. Good times. :D

Too bad I have to work tomorrow... is it bad that I want to call in sick one of these mornings and sleep in? My throat has been a little sore, but nothing to keep me away from work really. I just feel like using half a sick day 'cause all my vacation time is basically used up. ^^;; We'll see how that goes I guess, hehe.

Oh! And I ordered a tv tuner for my computer, so I can record stuff and watch it later. I don't have a VCR, and this is actually cheaper than buying one. Plus I won't need VCR tapes and I can burn off stuff if I want to save it. I should get it in the mail next week, it should be great! :D

Before I forget to mention it again, I'm apparently a golfer now. Or at least a beginner... a week ago today was my first time on the driving range, out in Gander. I went back on Sunday, bought a set of (cheap) clubs on Monday night, and have been to the range out here twice since then, including tonight. It's so much fun, though I've obviously got a lot to learn. Hopefully sometime soon I'll try the actual course, it's only 9 holes down here so that'd be a good place to start.

Going down there today, I saw about a half dozen squirrels running across the road in all, and an actual bunny on the golf course. It made me think of [livejournal.com profile] bunnytough, hehe. :D When I got to the turn off for the club, it looked like it might rain too, with a few specks landing on the windshield. Luckily it didn't though, that would've sucked.

Work's been good, I don't really wanna think about it while I'm enjoying my weekend, so I'll just leave it at that for now. Enjoying the HP book too, only about 1/4 of the way through it. I think I've conditioned myself to just read before bed time, I can't seem to read at any other time than that for some reason. Oh well! It is good, just taking my time to digest it.

Also saw a play last night, another local one. The Housewife was really good, though I kinda prefer comedies. It was well done though, especially considering the cast was just two people. I've seen two of the four plays they offer this year, I want to see the other two now. I'm slowly but surely taking part in more things here, with this and the golf now. Yay for getting out of the house!

Maybe it was the inspiration from the play, but I rented The Merchant of Venice last night, with Al Pacino. It was pretty good, I'd heard so much about that play but never read it in school or anything. Especially interesting with the whole legal point of view and such. I also got Miss Congeniality 2 because it was two new releases for $4 and, well, Sandra. :D That was quite funny, more so than I expected actually.

Tonight there's nothing on the go, I'm going to attempt more iconing. I made one last night, my first ever using Photoshop and all its fancy options. I was strictly a Paint Shop Pro user 'til now, so if anyone knows for any good tutorials or anything, feel free to send them my way! :D
