So, while browsing through Facebook I saw someone share a meme, featuring a picture of OJ Simpson receiving his verdict, with text saying something like 'Remember when all the white people rioted after the OJ acquittal? ME NEITHER' on it. I can't remember exactly, I've closed the page and don't want to look it up again, but yeah.

I bit my lip and scrolled on, not wanting to say anything, but then thought about the links and tweets I've seen about what it means to be an ally, what people can do to help, etc. I'm far from an activist or anything like that but I did go back and made a comment on the post to clarify the differences as politely as possible: at least there was a trial for OJ, which was made public and televised even, and the decision was released at an appropriate time, etc. And added a link to an article about the pumpkin riots too because, well. Ugh.

Hopefully the person will consider what I wrote, even if they don't agree with it, though it'd make me sad to think this person really does feel that way. :/

Right. Off to bed, early rise in the morning for me.

I've been in this position a few times (not regarding this particular subject, just generally - there's always some buttmonkey eager to say something stupid about a delicate topic), but I almost always wimp out. It's hard to speak up sometimes. So respect to you, sir, you done good today! :D
